Had this thing for almost 10 years probably. Always sounded good. Decided to push it more than usual and was finding it has little headroom past 4/10 on the master. Only ever changed this amps preamp tubes. So I opened it up for the first time and took pics.
A problem occurred when most all my 6L6 tubes were too tall. They wouldn't fit in the head shell and any replacement had to be rather short. Which is why I had to remove the chassis from the headshell in the first place.
I found a pair of short GT labeled 6L6s in my shit that not only (just) fit, but sounded better as well. More headroom and more articulation. Cathode biased apparently (?) It sounds fine so should be good.
