I'm interested in if anyone got to play a Dirty Shirley. I've been contemplating one of these for about six months.

Jerry from Luxxtone played the Dirty Shirley for about 15 minutes with one of his Teles. I thought sound was incredible.

Anyone other than Darren play anything not produced or sold at TM?

Some highlights for me were the BC #7 and #8 amps. The #7 is a low gainer and sounded very rich and full even though it is tiny (made to fit and ammo box). The #8 was a medium gain amp with a MV and presence control. No mush on this amp and very quiet even when cranked.

Another amp company I wanted to check out was Glaswerks. Gary makes the best "all in one" D-types amps IMO. He s very knowledgeable of all the different variety of D circuits and his three channel amps are really great giggable amps IMO.

Even though I like the Friedman (Dirty Shirley is my fave) and Cameron, the Suhr amps were not to be outdone. I had forgotten how great the OD100 SE+ sounds for high gain. Tight, focused, does the dropped tuning thing quite well. The PT100 is still my favorite of their line though... The SL68 was an unreal surprise! It sounded so good and I loved how there are two settings on the amp. Full voltage and "variac" setting that automatically drops the voltage to "VH" levels.

Tried the new Rasmus GG model. Not my cup o tea. I much preferred the Classic shop guitar they had in there. The Rasmus guitars fit and finish were top notch. I jut don't like elliptical neck profiles and 24 frets. Give me a Medium C or 60's vintage neck carve, 22 frets, and I'm happy.

Morgan amps was another highlight for me. Trader Joe knows his stuff. His amps sound great, are well built, and don't break the bank. His interpretations of the classics are "just right" IMO

I was totally disappointed in the LA Amp Show. I didn't mind paying the $20 bucks to get in (paid $40 for my wife and I) as I read on the website the high cost was to discourage the not so serious buyers and I can appreciate that. The set up wasn't bad as you went from room to room checking out different products.

With all that said the downfall was the people, the girls at the door were nice enough but as we started going from room to room, we would walk in only to be looked over to see if we were somebody, then turn their backs to us totally ignoring us. Was this show for the public? It didn't seem like it, when you walk in a room where someone is showing their merchandise you would think you would at least get a "hi, how ya doing, welcome, do you have any questions". We stayed in a few of the rooms for up to 10 minutes no one could bother with us with the exception of Voodoo Amps. In the Voodoo Amps room we were immediately greeted and told about the products they had on display, very nice. All the other rooms had one guy playing guitar, basically performing for all to listen to how great he was, if I wanted that I would have gone to Guitar Center and listed to the guy that comes in and shreds for a half hour then leaves with no intention of buying anything. It would have been nice to at least been acknowledged by somebody who might think that I was interested in buying. I could have easily bought a $3000.00 amp but no one was interested they were more interested in themselves; it seemed like you needed to be in their click or be somebody to get talked to. I've been playing guitar for more than 40 years and have met some of the best, these guys seem to be just a bunch of tight asses only interested in themselves. This has to go down as one of the worst shows I have ever been to.

I'm glad I paid the money so I know not to go to a show like this again, its embarrassing that might fellow musicians can be so unfriendly.

I declare shinannigans.. ......................Im the first to say when I notice uncool people. The people who came by were all pretty cool guy. I know most of the vendors so I dot see any of this being true at all. Even though it was L.A.

I posted on the Dirty Shirley a few weeks back when i came from TM to play it, and its by far one of best Classic Marshall type tones ive heard and played though. dont expect high gain, but i liked it for that reason and cleans up amazingly.

It's absolutely available. John will hand wire you one.

My fav amps at the show were honestly (predictably) my own SL68, original PT100 which still rules the roost in the american/british in one box category I think, and Dave's new slightly revamped Brown Eye circuit really smoked too. Marshall nirvana for sure. I played it with a Luxxtone axe that had a new Motor City JB-ish pickup, and it was basically perfect hard rock tone. The Cameron amp had some cool sounds, the focus seems to be on uber aggressive with it, which isn't my thing, but on Ch1 there was some cool surprises, some sort of Jose MV mod sound that you can switch in was my fav.

Was fun to hear Andy Alt and a few others rip through my SL68- that amp is pure plexi magic I tell ya.

I loved some of the Morgan amps too, and they look amazing. Lance Keltner's Retro Channel SS amp does a great trainwrecky-bloom thing (one note becomes 2 or 3) when playing lead, really neat to hear in a SS amp. Love that the Axe FX 2 will have ability to make your own IR's soon- they demonstrated that and it was cool, I really want to make my own.

The guy who studied under Max making LP repros that had some axes in Cameron's room- those guitars were gorgeous. Great 59-style aged LP's. Wow. His name escapes me at the moment...

So, Doug ive got a dwvils advocate kinda question for you. Since Trace and the voodoo boys were hospitable, (and I condider them in the top ten build wise)
Did you play for example the voodoo plex? Or ask Trace about a custom build?
just saying if I had 3k, and I was there, id a walked out with an order placed, and time on some heads.
And a free g-Damn t shirt for my time.

Had a great time seeing everyone again. Lots of good tones at the show. Our camp (Friedman, Cameron, Luxxtone) will be at the Amp Show they are doing next to NAMM in January. Hopefully we will see more old and new friends there as well.

I am glad you found our booth to be inviting, truly. Like most Amp Shows, Saturdays tend to be a higher traffic day and while we were also busy from opening to closing we tried to make it a point to make every feel at home. We did not rush any one and every player was welcome to spend as much as time as they liked in the booth, playing on amps, asking questions, etc. We even had some players stop by with their own portable recording equipment so that they could listen back later on to evaluate and compare tones. We are always happy to accommodate and if you have any questions please feel free to call or email :)

Thank you for stopping by Doug!

Scott Sheldon at MCi Music. His guitars were super cool, especially that one 59 replica, it had some serious mojo!
