how do the ESP, Edwards, Carvin single cuts compare as far as quality and tone are concerned...
and to keep it fair lets stick with Standards and lower..

Here's my input, none of the "clones" I've owned sound like a Les Paul....with the exception of The Heritage H-150CM (fantastic guitar!).

Having said that, I think a lot of the clones have less QC issues...and some definitely seem built better/higher quality (ala Carvin).

I have a Heritage 150CM and it sounds like a LP or even better IMO. Also have an Edwards LP and while it does not sound exactly like a LP, it still is great guitar.

Tokia, Burny and Heritage.

I'd go with the real deal, you can find sweet ass LP's in the $1400-1700 used range

I have an Edwards ELP-85CTM and it is glorious. I considered Gibsons (though not a Custom as that's way out of my price range... but have played several LP Customs) and the Edwards really does compare favorably.

I'd vouch for Edwards guitars as being up there with any factory made guitar. Period.

I've owned Customs, Limited Editions, R9, and still own a Standard... Which I love. That being said, my Tokai smokes them all. Change the pickups and it's just a better guitar.

As long as you care about them playing and sound good, instead of whether they're exactly like a "real" Les Paul, all 3 that you mentioned are good choices.

Orville by Gibson Les Paul custom are far better than anything gibson puts out these days. I have a 57 reissue OBG that is a unbelievable guitar quality and playability. I owned a gibson leas Paul custom and sold it after I got the orville by Gibson. The regular orville guitars are great also but the OBG are far better. I chose my $1500 OBG used to a 2012 Gibson less Paul custom that I paid $2700 used

Best LP I've ever owned was a set neck Ibanez years ago..Today..I play a Greco

Things to keep in mind if you want your clone to sound like a LP are scale length and body thickness.

I already have a Gibson but I am just curious... assuming the tops, body wood, scale are the same why would the clones sound any different?

I have a Gretsch Jet Pro that was a gift when I was like 16, and I've tried to sell it a few times, but I just couldn't bring myself to because it sounds so similar to some of my favorite LPCs...

Been looking at clones too since recent Gibson prices are sky high and I've been jonesing for a les paul with P90's. Problem is you can't find any of these les paul copies in the states to try out.

Don't forget to look at Bacchus supposedly they have a good rep and you can order it with many options.

I'm sure I will burn for saying this, but I think my favorite guitar is my Chinese Tokai LP, even a couple of luthiers that have looked at it said it was well made, what I like about it is it is lighter than the Japanese model, I played the Edwards and it wasnt for me. I have changed out the pickups and pots but other than that its great. I think you can get them for about 400-500 new. I have heard the Tokai Japanese models and Burney are very good.

I'll get strung up for saying this...but I'm impressed with the cheap Epiphones out there. I've owned many Les Pauls...even Historics...and the Epiphones aren't that bad if you swap out the pickups...good enough to satisfy my LP jones

Buy used, There are some great prices out there on used Gibson's right now. No way I'd buy a greco or edwards right now with the used prices on Gibson's the level they are right now.

I'll take the heat off you by saying I actually like my Agile AL-2000 for some LP type tones. Changing out the crap wiring and pickups with quality stuff helps a ton, but it can only do so much - won't turn a Honda Civic into a Dodge Viper.

Nothing beats a real deal gibson

Sarcasm? or serious here. I've only had it for a year now but my MIJ Navigator LP has destroyed any Gibson in tone I've played or compared since then...granted they are top of the line Japanese LP copies. Hell the same could probably be said for my 1980 Tokai. But sure there are awesome Gibson's as well I just have not seen many?
