:hys:

I see we woke up with a bit of a bite today, hmmm??

How is this even a fair comparison???

Let's see..........on one hand we have superb German quality with high quality parts.

On the other we have, a Mexican made amp with decent at best components and not even a proper clean channel.

No fucking brainer.

I voted VH4, but if the EVH 5153 can cop an authentic brown sound then I need that amp instead.

I play just like George Lynch.

I think you are confused in that you think people give a fuck. Consensus of a crowd means jack shit in something so subjective as amp preference. Nothing will be settled but nice try.

Oh wait I'm wrong. You give a fuck about consensus.

I've used both amps fairly extensively. First, they're not that similar in sound. Second, the "better sound" comparision its not as close as you think. Third, the Evh can be had used for 600 or so and covers anything rock to metal 80s-now very well. The perfect tone for any given style - no, but very good. Also, the 50 watt weighs like 25lbs. The price, flexibily, and ease of use/transportation mean a lot of people would rather have the evh.

Both are garbage. Give me a Peavey Bandit with a Boss Metal Zone and I'll put them both to shame.

I've NOT played them both extensively. Only for short sittings at music stores.
With that said, they both sounded good but I definitely preferred the VH4.
I've yet to hear an amazing recording with a VH4. Seems like every time someone points me in a direction of a song, I really don't dig it.
People have pointed me in the direction of some amazing sounding metal recordings with the EVH.

Hetfields tone also blows with the Diezel. Maybe I just associate him with a Mesa.
Anyway. You could get up on stage and make music with either amp.
I'm not guided by price. That's useless to me. Either an amp sounds good or it doesn't.

Perfect response. But remember I didn't ask for better sound...just which you prefer. If you had your choice today.

Right, thats why I covered more than sound. If I had to pick one of these two for all time, I'd take the EVH. All the factors above plus the diezel just doesnt sound 3k better to me. The VH4 is an awesome amp and great to have around if you can afford it but its not the end all for me. Also, if we put any other Diezel besides the VH4 up there, it's EVH without hesitation.

I voted for the EVH purely out of spite towards the poll itself.

Wow, I didn't know you had it out for me too Ejecta...nice to see that though.

Have it out for you? LOL! Oh man this thread is getting even wierder... I don't "have it out" for anyone.

I think you are taking this way too personally. IMHO it's a silly poll. I've owned two Herbert's and a VH4. I now own a 5153 that I've had for a good while. I'd take the 5153 all day long over any Diezel that I had. Two heads out of the three had issues and had to be returned to be fixed. On top of the I found the tone to be overly compressed and sterile. See it's all subjective. I dont give a shit what the consensus of this forum is on my personal choices in amps.

I brought this up before in an EVH thread...I said "any amp cost is no object...." People still picked their beloved little 5153. They probably havent played many other top shelf amps I'd assume. 5153s are nice, I've had 2...but they'd be a backup to my favorites. Maybe the Stealth is up to par with the top shelf amps, but I will take my 600$ JCM bass amp boosted over ANY of the 5153 channels. Sorry.

Since we're talking objectively, which do you prefer, Klon or Bad Monkey?

Or they just prefer the 5153?

I'd take a Twin over most amps for most of the gigs I play.
I'm talking for real world gigging. Not bedroom jamming. And it's what I want to see on the back line for a fly date.

Klon. They cost more so it must be better.

I've played lots of top shelf amps. EVH runs with all of them. There's nothing special or secret or unobtainable about them (which is why they dont get more love on gear forums I'd guess) - just a simple, accessible amp that sounds good for most anything rock or metal. That's why a lot of people like them. Beyond that, its just personal taste - some amps just dont work for some people.

Reza - i seem to remember you had a post a while back praising Gojira's live sound, right? Well, they're 5153s straight in, no effects to Two Notes Torpedo. I bring it because i agree their sound is great. Surely they could have used Diezels if they wanted. Bottom line, its what works for you.

I've owned all 3 evhs. I sent the stealth back because it didnt sound any better than the 50 watt. The red channel is basically the same on all versions. It the blue channel that is differnt. If you're playing metal, you'll be living on the red.
