An amp has to be a genuine 'piece of crap' before I will label it a 'piece of crap'.

Anyone who writes comments like that or refers to an amp shitting all over another when it is completely down to subjective tonal opinion, probably isn't worth responding to. I'm convinced that guy is a troll anyway.

Which would you rather have?

Let's let the people decide.

This is specifically for DickPose

Deizel amps especially the vh4, has got to be one of the most overhyped, over priced, and over compressed amps I've ever heard. My evh 50 watt shits on that piece of crap any day.

Just saying

Whether it's true he feels that way or not, you realize he was just trying to get a rise out of you, right? Apparently it worked. It's just the fucking interwebz...don't take it so personally.

The poll results are within the limited scope of what I would expect on Rig Talk. About 50/50 with any two high gain amps. Peoples taste are subjective. Probably would not be very different on any forum.

EVH because the VH4 is an overpriced piece of shit.

Diezel amps get a lot hype. I've played around with a few of them and yea, they're good amps. However, people try to make them seem more than they are. The ones I've played, I thought they were "meh". Diezel's seem to be dark and thick and just not the kind of tone I'm into. I've got a 5153 50 watt and I use it mostly for the blue channel. I like it way more than any diezel amp I've played. The 5153 by no means is "better", that term is subjective. Better for me, yea. Better for you, that's something you can answer yourself. IMO, I'd Take a 5153 over a VH4.

Exactly!

Let's not forget...
VH4 - $4-5k
5150III - $1999

If someone came up to my door and said they'd give me either one I'd take the Diezel of course...but if I were to use my own money towards one it'd be the 5150 III 50w since it's less than 1/4 the price, small enough to move around with ease, and still sounds great/seems reliable. If the question was if I could only own one for the rest of my life I suppose I'd probably still take the Diezel :o
I'm quite fond of my 5150 III 50w though and I think I'll be hanging onto it for years.

I had a 50W 5150 III. It's one of the few pieces of gear I've ever flipped. (I actually bought it from Brad. And he didn't rip me off. Maybe that belongs in a different thread... ;) ). I loved the Blue channel. I didn't need the Red channel. But, I really needed a good clean channel and it didn't have one. The volume jump and shared EQ made it all but unusable for me and the stuff I do (you know, as the half-ass rhythm guitar player in a generic cover band...)

I'd love to take a VH4 for a spin, but no one I know has one here in the middle of my Midwest cornfield. Whether or not I would take a VH4 over the EVH has more to do with the fact that it's one of the ugliest amps ever built :poke: If we're going to be subjective, let's talk about looks, too :D

I have nothing worthwhile to offer to this thread

BTW, I actually enjoy your videos Rez, you play very nicely.
Shame your such a jerk.

sucks man. sucks to be a jerk :(

No, you're not!
You're a cool guy! Your amps are awesome! Please sell me your Friedman 1987 Marshall one day. ;)

Btw...you need a Herbert!

Ferrari or Camry?

On a race track, a great driver in a Camry will spank a regular driver in a Ferrari. I think the same applies here.

Which would I take? The VH4 of course and it would go into the classifieds immediately. Awesome amp, but not the amp for me.

I voted VH4, but if the EVH 5153 can cop an authentic brown sound then I need that amp instead.

I play just like George Lynch.

This place was founded in 2006 and built up by members in which the majority loved George Lynch. That is not something new or something that developed as this place started it's downward spiral. Without players like Lynch and DeMartini and Rhoads and Van Halen etc and brown sound discussions and the guys who held these as their main influence, this place wouldn't even have existed by the time you joined in 2009. This place was ALWAYS hard rock and classic metal centered. That was it's main focus and to deride that now seems a bit out there.

this thread and poll suck
and so does the one that caused it.

The Herbert is a cool amp when it's on the right cabinet. When I had an Einstein I couldn't sell it fast enough, did NOT like that amp.

This guy actually captures the sound of it, which is pretty horrid. But the Herbert I did like.

That's modified Diezel channel 2 BTW...."Testing my Einstein with Channel 2 modified with the new Diezel cabinet".who knows what the mod is? Have had em all, (Einstein, Herbert and VH4 which I still have) and they are great amps period. If you dig what they do great because there aren't many amps that sound the way they do. If not fine too. Have had all 3 versions of the 5153, also great amp but in a different way. No longer own any of the EVH amps.
