Ferrari or Camry?

On a race track, a great driver in a Camry will spank a regular driver in a Ferrari. I think the same applies here.

Which would I take? The VH4 of course and it would go into the classifieds immediately. Awesome amp, but not the amp for me.

Give me a Ferrari. I'd take on a world class driver in a heartbeat. Mostly depends on the track you're talking about. Something hairy he might win.

I don't think it's a good comparison, but I understand what your getting at.

Played a gig aired on national TV. I showed up and there was a little Blues JR. Watched the broadcast back and my tone was killer. I think your point is either you can play or you can't. Expensive gear isn't going to save you.

Diezel amps get a lot hype. I've played around with a few of them and yea, they're good amps. However, people try to make them seem more than they are. The ones I've played, I thought they were "meh". Diezel's seem to be dark and thick and just not the kind of tone I'm into. I've got a 5153 50 watt and I use it mostly for the blue channel. I like it way more than any diezel amp I've played. The 5153 by no means is "better", that term is subjective. Better for me, yea. Better for you, that's something you can answer yourself. IMO, I'd Take a 5153 over a VH4.

Agreed. I've owned both and stuck with the 5153. The VH4 just wasn't for me.

I would've argued the Ferrari vs Lamborghini, but for the analogy of this thread, I get the comparison.

I don't know if I'd put the evh along with a Camry, maybe a Honda? Or are the Evh's not proven reliable enough to match the Honda yet?

My evh 50 is very good for me. Not my last amp but definitely a keeper. I simply can't get over the $ tag on the deizel to justify when I could get two pieces f top gear that sound way better.

It's all set to personal preference and a good debate is always cool IMO.

This is a gear forum with different tastes is it not?
These are the kind of discussions that serve as the platform for all involved to state their opinions.

Listen, I was simply stirring shit by calling the vh4 a shit amp. Of course it's not. It's not my thing but certainly worthy of being respected as a well made machine when there are so many others out there who time and time again proven less than stable amplifiers.

I welcomed this thread as it is what a good gear forum is about IMO. Let's be open to opinion and not angry towards it.

One more thing, does anyone find it interesting that the current results are fairly close?
I expected a wider distance between the two.

Funny thread

I've played my Splawn Quickrod since 2006. Talk about being bashed!!    "weird mids"...."Bible verses"... You name it, I've heard it :D

It's a freakin amplifier! If it's something you like, Who gives a flying f*ck what anyone thinks ?? This shit slinging is like water on a duck's back to me. I find it humorous that someone would go to such limits to defend 'his' amp :aww:

wait??....I was member of the Splawn Police back in the day  ;) :D

Never knew you thought I wasn't cool with you.

The Quick Rod is a great amp and in my list also. IMO, one of the best modded Marshall tones out there.
Has its own thing going on which I like a lot.

I love my QR as well. Don't care what anybody thinks.

I've talked to too many players over the years that spout off about gear only to hear them play and been more than disappointed. For me, opinions don't matter if a guy can't play. I also prefer that there is real world gigging behind those opinions.

.. . ..... . ... ... .

I have owned a Camery. My friend Howard Leese had a Ferrari. Some how I usually got to the gig before him ? I do not think we ever were racing....

I owned the VH4 for a month before I decided it wasn't for me. It never really growled like I wanted and was too clean for the clean channel. It was like a hi def Fender twin on channel 3, it broke up, it sounded good, but needed something to make it sing. It is hard to describe, it's certainly it's own sound, but that sound was sterile, for lack of a better word. Channel 4 was a little more of the same, but like Engl's, channel 3 was the bread and butter of the amp.

To me, the amp sounded like Tool's recorded tone (regardless of what they were using when) it sounds like that. I actually met a guy that made amazingly well produced djent music, using the Snax. I asked him what amp sim he was using, he said that VH4. I laughed, he said why, they're awesome! I said, have you ever actually played one? He said no, I said, that sounds absolutely nothing like a real VH4. It's too saturated and too much gain.

In the end, it was well built, had nice midi features, to these ears, I would not ever consider a Diezel again. They are semi supped up Fenders without the soul, with the price tag of an Audi A8.

Rez, what did you expect?
A total blow out?

So... The 4k amp only has as of current. 11 more votes than an amp 1/4 the price.

As you say,
"Let's settle this quickly."

Why don't you stop trying to stir shit up with Reza? As opinionated and brash as he can be..... when it comes to stirring up stuff you are quickly lapping him.

I love my Mark V head, people like to bash it. I took the time to find the right tubes and dial it in. I don't care what people say. It sounds perfect in the band mix.

I have played the VH4, it definitely was not for me, even if it cost half the price.

See? Exactly! I don't know if this helps or hurts my point.

Nah, we had a little dust up not too long ago where you dared to not fall into line and agree with everything I said 100%. :)

PS. My daughter absolutely HATES the little gif in your signature because she knows the original video. She gets so mad if she sees it on my screen but I giggle myself silly when he does the little jazz hands thing at the end. Holy crap!

It's all good man and sorry if I pissed you off. I'm sure I do that sometimes.

Thanks for telling me about your daughter... that made me laugh. I used to work in the animation industry and that gif is just great.... such simple animation on a fun idea. I like it because I think it shows good work is good work no matter the tool or how "finished' it looks and on top of all that I think it shows just how awesome animals can be and adapt.
