Lolzgreg's Tube Description and Recommendation Thread

The whole JJ thing really bums me out. I used to really like JJ power tubes. Now they are just junk. Their preamp tubes come with shit floating around in them, and they just fail.
 
+1 on the Sovtek 5881 tubes. They're the best 6L6 type. They do seem to run at a little higher temp than other types which can be alarming if you aren't aware. No problems though with tube life on these even with rough handling and travel.

I also like the Sovtek 6550's, best 6550/KT88 type IMO.

Good stuff all around.

I agree with most of it except that I have yet to have a problem with a JJ power tube. I have heard that their production quality has risen over the years so maybe that is the case since 2012. I would not hesitate to buy, use or recommend JJ power tubes. EL84's is another story but I don't have any EL84 maps.

I would have reserved the second post to discuss NOS tubes :)

Otherwise, good stuff like I said. Thanks for putting it together.
