So Ive been playing the Avatar now for like a year and its a really nice cab, but with doing the progmetal thing its lacking. Its a really light cab and its loaded w/ eminence legends.

So w/ running the 5150 head on top and w/ my style of music (short staccato rythmic stuff) w/ a budget of around $500... can anyone make any suggestion? Whether its speaker selections or cabs in general. There is someone in my area selling a Marshall MF400... I don't know too much about this model.

Any input would be a great help

You'd be better off in the long run to save up another $500 and get a Diezel FL/RL 4x12 and be set for life.

I know Diezel and Bogner make great cabs, but I don't think you need to pay that much.

I'd honestly go for a Marshall 1960 cab and if you really wanted to, you could upgrade the back panel to real wood and maybe upgrade the wiring (though I never bothered).

In my experience 5150's sound great through Marshall cabs and work well with most speaker combinations. I've tried it with most of the popular speaker combos and they all sound good to me. Most popular are Vintage 30's, GT-75's, G12M (greenbacks), G12H's. X pattern's work well with most of these speakers as well.

You can get 1960 A's or B's all day long for less than $400 and you stick with the stock GT 75's or buy a couple of Warehouse speakers Veteran 30's and put them in using an X pattern and you'd be in great shape.

save up for a used mesa loaded with v30's

tried and true combo for the studio and the road.

I hear the Mesa thing, and another friend of mine said the 1960a cab too. The only reason the mf400 caught my attention is the K100 speakers... i hear they're killer. I appreciate the intput tho def helps me narrow down

why not just swap out the speakers in your cab?
the avatars cabs are perfectly fine cabinets.

I guess im just not in love w/ it. Its a small 4x12 cab. really light weight and w/ the 5150 on top the head hangs over a decent amount. I got a really good deal on the Avatar so I bought it and It def was an upgrade from my Marshall mg412 lol, but my tastes have changed... i dunno. im just having the hardest time selling it now too, and I need the money from this one to buy a new one.

ah ok, so beyond the sound you just don't like the cab, that's reasonable- everyone has their own tastes.

I was going to suggest a Vader cab but I think they have legends also.
I say either the Marshall 1960b or a Mesa cab.

I'd say Mesa or Marshall TV,both the same size,Marshall is a tad brighter.
But both are built to last.

my ultimate goal with tone is to get that Periphery/TesseracT/Textures kind of tone. I don't know if thats considered brighter or not... but definately needs to be tight.

what model is the marshall TV?

I've owned several Marshall 1960s, and I still own my Mesa recto 4x12. There's just no comparison. The recto cab has a bunch more bottom end than the Marshall. You can score them used for around $600. I'll never buy another Marshall cab, that's for sure.

Also, make sure the Mesa 4x12 is an actual recto cab. Just because it's a black Mesa 4x12 doesn't mean it's a recto. There is definitely a difference.

Good luck with your search.

You might wanna look into whitebox cabs. They are supposed to be modeled after orange cabs if i am not mistaken. I have heard great things about them, and they are only like 529 new i think

My vote goes for VHT fatbottom, solid built yet still only 84lbs. Comes with fryette custom eminence p50e's that tame the high end but are tight like that fryette sound.

Grab that MF400 cab. It will give you that big tight sound with little cone breakup needed for tech death metal.

These are realy nice looking cabs and Ive never heard of them before. Its the same specs as the Orange 412 too.

Im going to start a new thread about these to see who has them or who has used them cause I just fell in love w/ these cabs

I think it was o'rourke who had a whitebox 2x12 on here. He could give you some info on there cabs. You might wanna pm him

Just buy used. I got my Bogner Uberkab on here for $550 or so in mint condition.

I hear ya.. I always buy used too I should stick w/ what works. Not a lot of Cab deals going on these days except for crap. I'd love to snag an Uberkab, but I think I may have to go w/ the MF400 cuz hes asking $300.

u guys think thats worth it?

Seems pretty good, There is a mesa cab down here I am tempted to buy for $350 :D
