Maybe nobody's "done it" because it honestly doesn't sound that great. If it were the end all be all, why hasn't Bogner made it a production model?

And as far as running a few pedals in front of a stock amp to get awesome tone, that's exactly how the majority of all the famous sounds on records everybody loves in the last 60 years were done. All the mystique and BS around the magical mojo of this or that amp... nonsense. Companies these days sell the idea that you can buy some boutique amp and it will make you a rock god. No. What separates the real rock gods from the wannabes is being able to plug into some beat up JMP that's probably not even biased properly and lay down some killer tracks and then go grab some bourbon at the local bar and not give two fucks about some Jorge mod or Scuba hot-rodded money sucker amp.

I'm obviously being a bit cynical here. Sure, cool gear is cool. And sure, cool gear can be fun. But man, people put way too much stock into this shit sometimes.

Seriously when you're back in town hit me up. I'll show you some shit. I used to think the same thing till I got a hold of some amazing amps. That's all I'm going to say.

I'm free after this coming Tuesday. PM me and let's set up a time.

Thing is, New World Man here on RT confirmed with Ronnie C the producer of Facelift that the actual Rhythm tone on Facelift is a 60s Fender Bassman and NOT the Bogner Modded Marshall 4010. A goosed Bassman is the tone everyone chases on that album, NOT the Marshall. As much as I want it to be a 4010, it's not....
So let's all find a mid 60s Bassman and goose that bitch.

I think some of the best tones I've ever heard were just a stock Super Bass into a Greenback cab. Cranked way the fuck up. Or just a JCM800 with a boost. Pretty simple shit.
Absolutely!
Simpler is better...maybe not always, but definitely more often than not.

the real trick is finding a guy like layne and then writing a song like bleed the freak or it ain't like that anymore.

until then you might as well be jerking off to [gear] porn in your man cave/amp room arguing about diode clipping and cathode followers.

i bet cantrell knows fuck all about any of it
