Let’s also not forget that wood doesn’t matter on guitars
Finish doesn’t matter either. Just choose your guitar based on looks and how immaculate the fretwork is and most importantly how conveniently the knobs are placed. Get either a Suhr, PRS, or Mayones with the nicest looking top. It’s better that they are heavily doused in poly finish. Means your guitar will always look new and shiny and won’t affect the sound at all. No risk of finish checking like in those god awful Les Paul’s or vintage strats. Put Bare Knuckle pickups in it while you’re at it for best results. If you’re really lucky they will already come with those

JERRY CANTRELL SIGNATURE - 2 Channel – 20-Watt Head
Dave Friedman teamed up with Jerry Cantrell and captured the Alice In Chains guitarist’s iconic tone and ferocity in the Friedman JJ-100 - Cantrell's first ever signature amp. The JJ-100 was an instant success. Not being the types to leave a great thing alone, they decided to cram all that punishing tone and grind into a stage-friendly 20-watt monster. Introducing, the Friedman JJ-Junior.

The JJ-Junior still gives you the same 2-channel, EL-powered tone that has carved out a legendary place in rock. All of the saturated, complex harmonic overtones are still lurking inside, as well as the AC30-like cleans. At 20 watts, the JJ-Junior lets you take the stage, studio, or jam session with total confidence.

Jerry and Dave spent years perfecting the "JJ" sound. Now, you can have the same tonal experience, in a smaller format, without sacrificing the attention to detail that goes into every Friedman amplifier.

The JJ Junior features and internal load and cab-simulated XLR output. Comparing this analog circuit to some of the most intricate computer-based IRs, Dave achieved a direct output you can proudly send to front of house or use in the studio. The JJ Junior also allows you to play "silently," meaning you can safely play the amp WITHOUT having a speaker cabinet connected. The XLR output includes a ground-lift, level, and center/edge of speaker cone simulation switches.

The JJ Junior was specifically designed to take pedals well especially boosts, ODs, phasers, flangers, tremolos, and wahs. The ultra-transparent buffered, series effects loop takes time-based effects pedals and rack units equally well. This is the exact same FX loop Friedman uses on all its amplifiers including the legendary BE-100. The head cabinet features beautiful black Tolex, with Baltic Birch construction and the same grille cloth used on the original JJ-100.

Features:

  • Jerry Cantrell’s signature grind in a compact tube head
  • 20-watt EL84 power section, perfect for most stages, studios and rehearsals
  • Dirty and clean channels serve up Cantrell gain and AC-like chime
  • JBE switch unleashes even more gain and harmonic content
  • Ultra-transparent series FX loop
SPECIFICATIONS

  • 20-Watt all tube Head
  • Two channels
  • 2 x EL84 power tubes
  • 3 x 12AX7 preamp tubes
  • JBE voicing switch for a higher gain more saturated sound
  • Clean channel: single volume knob with bright switch
  • Dirty channel: gain, master, treble, middle, and bass
  • Global presence knob
  • XLR Cab Simulated output with Ground Lift, Axis and Level switches. You can record without having your speaker connected
  • 8 and 16 ohm impedance selector
  • Single button footswitch (included)
  • Ultra-transparent series effects loop
  • Dimensions 18" (W) x 8.5" (D) x 8.25" (H)
  • Weight: 22 Lbs.

Nearly 50% of the Friedman amp collection is under 50W and sold as gig-ready.

-6 db difference between cranked 100W and 20W in most cases.

People saying they can withstand 20W opened up are saying they can withstand a fire engine siren for an hour at a time with no earplugs.

So you have not only been sold by gimmick, but also stumbled into a thread making fun of you. Congratulations, sir.
Tone is subjective, so if you have clay filled ears, it may be tough to tell the differnce in tone (not volume) from a buzzy little 20 watter and a real deal amp especially if it makes a claim that you would love to believe because it fits into the box that any consumer can get all the tone in the world at whisper volumes. Here are a few more brands that misled gullible consumers, which you for sure are, because you use youtube videos and ads as proof.
Rice krispies said right on the box that it gives you immunity. False, and got sued over it. I know what you are thinking (It is in print, it must be true) No, tone dip shit, stop being a gullible cunt.
Frosted mini wheats said that it made kids more attentive
Camel cigarettes claimed to be approved by doctors
activia yogurt claimed to make people lose weight with their special bacterias that didn't exist
Look at how many juices say 100% juice and really aren't
Look at how many honey containers claim to be pure honey, yet are mixed with corn syrup and mixed in lead containers in china
sketchers shape ups were a cute one too. i bet you had a pair of those

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the big one. You can really get a lot more out of your amp if you take your preamp tube covers off. It changes everything!
This is a really good point. I mentioned in another post that tone fairies cannot fit into a pcb, which is why handwired amps sound better. But those preamp shield are the antithesis of tone for sure

I just wanna say, I am so glad you are here. You make this place more interesting. Thanks for more asinine claims.

Yes perpetuating ignorance is very welcome here. Someone earlier mentioned that this thread would be very confusing for a beginner guitarist to sort out truth. People like this keep the whole rig-talk board this way. But damned if it isn't amusing

Also please stop with the siren comparison, at the very least. Real talk, you are out of your mind if you think any guitar amp on the planet is as loud as a federal Q mechanical siren wound up. Completely out of your mind.

I think earlier in this thread Japetus said that he could prove that turning the amp volume and guitar volume all the way down resulted in the better tone. That 20 watt gimmick jerry cantrell threw his name on is one I would much rather have at 0 than at 10. What a fucking joke.

Completely Agreed. Not to mention, who the hell is cranking ANY high gain head past 9-10 o’clock on the volume knob? Fucking asinine.

If you don't mind, I want to use this post to springboard some random thoughts.

Most players don't know how set-up amplifier. If they did, they wouldn't be purchasing 100 watt tube driven amplifiers for home use. If you're not playing Madison Square Garden, you have no business using anything above 30 watts. Depending on the circuit, 30 (tube) watts can be excessive.

If you're not at least attempting to compose your own material, please, do not insinuate yourself into our art. You're either born an artist, or you're not. Many of you are, you just don't know it. You don't know it, because you've spent your time trying to be someone else. Once you have a firm knowledge of the instrument, your only interest should be the writing of original material. Do you see WVH touring his dad's music? No! He'll use a few tricks, as a tribute to his dad, but that's it. If he does do a VH song, he will make it his own, just as Ed did with covers.

Spending endless hours showcasing new amplifiers and distortion tones is a cop-out! You do it, because you're too lazy and/or uninterested in personal development. It could be that you don't have confidence in your abilities as a player? Either way, you're wasting precious time. Even if your compositions aren't very good, at least they're original. Just keep writing, and you'll eventually begin to create music you're happy with. To write a song, you begin with a melody, of course. I recommend using a keyboard (piano) for constructing a melody and harmony. Your keyboard should be as important to you as your guitar, maybe more important. Regardless of your main instrument, everyone, including drummers, should know how to play piano. It's almost a prerequisite to calling yourself a musician.
