I'm looking for something to kick up my JSX a notch, yet semi transparent. The JSX is brutal, but its also got a shitload of gain on both OD channels, and gets compressed real quick, with the slightest of boost.

I bought another OCD, which is pretty transparent, but it's also instant mud city. I really have a love/hate with that pedal, usually the latter.

My TC Spark Booster works best. However, it gets boomy as well, even with the EQ. What I need, it something subtle, yet some grit. The OCD and Spark Boost are just too warm. I've been using my MXR GT-OD which does the grit nicely, but even with gain at zero, its too much, and lowering the output level thins it out..

Tell me about Xotic RC, Timmy, or the like.. Maybe Maxon OD808?? Been awhile since I've had one..

My vote is for a Timmy first then a Cusack Screamer.

I absolutely love the Bogner Wessex, that ended my search. It pushes everything I put it in front of nicely.

Sounds like a Fortin Grind might work well. It cuts a fair amount of bass and adds a real attack / cut. It might help the compression issue and would definitely NOT get muddy.

cusak, timmy or venuram jan ray (clone of timmy fender eq'd). You could also test out the Cornish stuff but $$$ but unbelievable clean boost.

There's nothing I like more than the Maxon od808 - I don't know if it'll be the same for you but if you find a used one and end up not liking it, you shouldn't have any problem moving it.

Cusack. It can be subtle, which some boosts don't seem to be able to do even at minimal settings. But also over the top.

I love the wessex too. It is very versatile and can be eq'd just right to fit the bill. Love that pedal!

Voodoo labs Sparkle Drive. It gives you the ability to have a clean boost or blend in a "tube screamer" OD.

I know it's a hyped up pedal but I do enjoy playing the Timmy. Especially on a loud clean channel. Not sure how it would do on a JSX.

At the moment my favorite boost is the Seymour Duncan 805 . It's got a full eq and does the tighten low end thing without all the compression and mid hump . I use it like a clean boost , gain all the way off

I hear Friedman is dropping a new boost here at namm in a week or so...I would wait for it if I were you :)

Ahh NAMM goodies...I actually applied for a badge on the NAMM site. I figured fuck it, I'm working in San Francisco and it'd be a cool weekend trip. But got an email today, denied. haha.

The Xotic RC Booster is an excellent clean boost, but it doesn't add very much grit-it's definitely near the top of my list for transparent clean boosts though. Just takes the tone of your amp and kicks it up a notch without adding or removing any frequencies. In my opinion, tube screamer variants color the tone a bit too much.

The OCD is a great standalone overdrive pedal, but I never got great results from them using it to boost an amp. That's just not really what they're made for-I thought they were too gainy as a boost and I lost a lot of definition. The V1 and V2 OCD's were better than the newer models as a clean boost, however.

I really liked the Fulltone Fulldrive as a clean boost though. It's a very versatile pedal and there is a switch that allows you to change the diode clipping to suit your needs.

One of my favorite overdrives to use as a boost is the Majikbox Rocket Fuel. I don't care for it as a standalone overdrive, but when pushing an amp it absolutely rips!

After all the boutique overdrive/clean boost options I've tried, however, I really like the results I'm getting from a simple, boring Boss GE7. They're a little noisy, but they can be modified. I think EQ pedals are overlooked as clean boosts-you have alot more control over the tone since you can boots/cut certain frequencies. This option won't add any extra grit though, it's purely a clean boost.

I`ve got the standard tube boost but it had to go in for repairs. Hoping to have it back any day now. Where about are you setting the gain on your amps running the tube boost with the gain up a bit ?

Ive been using a Tim pedal and Xotic rc booster for years with great results. Both are very very transparent..The rc doesn't have that much gain,Tim has more gain, but both don't give the annoying mid hump,or add coloration.Never tried one on a jsx though.

This is where im at with the pedal right now. Master on both amps is 3 to 4 [not oclock] gain on both amps is about 4.

The Bass Boost is on and the mid shift is off on the OFA, i don't really use the mid shift as my amps are upper mid heavy.

I was running the OFA Boost @ 18 volts but went back to 9v.

Im on the HBE with a JMP & the high gain red channel on the DSL.

The EQ is a boost & i got a boost on the Lynch Tripler.

It depends what guitar im playing how i goose to gain, i have a 74" Gibson SG thats prone to squeal so i back off the Tripler gain with that guitar. My Les Pauls all can Max out on the gain 3 of them have Seymour Duncans, one other LP has Burstbuckers, they all sound great.

I usually stand 4 feet in front of both cabs screaming so i know when & what to do to control the feedback.

I don't have any major problems for as loud as i play, im lucky my GF puts up with it, she's a Music Major and we support each other.

I have an Epi 335 that will howl like a dog chasing a coon being semi hollow body, have to be cool with that.

So if i want like Classic Zep style gain i just use the Boost side of the OFA, if i want harder Rock i use the TS/808 style. I never use both sides of the pedal together with all my other pedals, its not necessary.

I have a Zakk ZW-44 & an OCD pedal as backup but so far the OFA Tube Boost + Overdrive is the shit.

I have 3 more channels/modes on the DSL & at least 6 more modes on the Friedman JMP to mess with.

Im always finding new combos to mess with.
