For the Price .........it cannot be beat!!

I run a 'little delay and reverb' so light you can barely tell its on.
Then a clean boost in front..........

Watch out!!!

Really kicks some ass!!

But i think there is also a tone/cost/reliability factor involved here.
For what the Diezel costs, it should sound, feel better than the 5150 no ?

I love the 5150 tone, its my favourite hi gain tone and the fact that it comes at such a great price adds to its bang for the buck.

So anyone have any workarounds to make the clean better ?

While in my opinion a Diezel Herbert definitely sounds better than a 5150, not that the 5150 isn't an awesome amp, it comes down to taste in tone and whether the difference in price is worth it to you. When I had one I ran some reverb with the clean to help it sound a little less bland, I've heard that some people use the lead channel for they're clean and use crunch as they're main gain tone also.

Haven't been on here in a while, but did you sell the Herbert mailman?

Yeah I traded it a while back for a Fortin Bones.
Just had a case of GAS and wanted a new amp.
Been on roll since then!

As far as the clean goes I used it for 16 years and got by. I basically kept the pre down really low and kept the post pretty high. Always added a little Detune effect and delay or reverb and used my neck pickup. Nothing stellar to make you go wow but usable enough for gigging. Freaking amps are tanks man. I've had mine in the shop once in the 17 years I've owned it. Never had any problems with my combo either and I've had it since 98'.

fx help quite a bit. high output pups make it harder to get a crystal clean that feels good. i like a little break up in my clean so I keep the bright on, gain at 1130. i also have a flanger i have set to give a slight subtle phaser sound in the loop. and sometimes i put a delay in there.

EVH 5150 BLOCK LETTER...
Wow.....
with a little effects and a Clean Boost.........

Holy SHIT!

What a GREAT AMP!!
Anyone else share in my feeling?
This amp does it all!!
From Chugging LOWS.......
to Ripping Hair Metal riffs........
to Great CLASSIC rock on the Crunch Channel.
AWESOME!! :D

Talk amongst yourselves......... ;)

A local friend of mine who owns a local store has a used one. I thought just on it's own it got better modern tones than I ever got out of a Mesa Rectifier.

Bias mod for better cleans bro. :)

The 5150 II's cleans are better, I can use them happily with a slight bit of delay or compression, plus you can mod the II's lead channel to 5150 'blockletter' specs. best of both worlds.

This amp hangs with the DIEZELS........and all the other "boutique" amps out there.........

I owned them all...........and this is one BAD MUTHA FN AMP!!

I don't agree at all.

I think the distorted tones of the 5150 are great, but its a one trick pony no offense
