I bought a Standard some time back when all the hype was peaking. It sits in my studio rack and is hooked up to powered monitors. When I need to be quiet and play through headphones or am too lazy to hook up an amp, I plug into it to noodle around on. I would never gig with it though. Don't trust a DSP computer chip and hard drive. You can use it as an effect only processor through your FX loop and it sounds about like everything else. But, if you are into SS amp modeling for playing live, it should suit you fine. Mine hasn't been turned on in a few months.

Steve

The axefx does not have a hard drive.

Of course 1920s technology with vacuum tubes that have a very limited lifespan and can go bad any moment is more reliable than a solid-state thingy made with the highest quality components...

Yeah, that's right, no none here has ever seen a broken tube amp.
not bagging on the axefx, but that doesn't seem like a good comparison. Unless it has a catastrophic failure, a monkey could swap a vacuum tube. That ancient technology means there is a lot less to go wrong, and also factors into ease of repair.
Well, I know that if shit fails on my gigs most of the time there is no way to swap any tubes. For me shit goes down I have about 4 bars to have the back-up up and running. Everything is doubled except the Axe. If that were to go down it's pedals into the power amp.

And on the flip side...
I've done about 200 shows in a row with mine with only having busted out an old JMP twice because I wanted to make sure I didn't miss it. And no I'm not into "SS amp modeling for playing live" but rather into consistent great tone and and response.

+1

Awesome.....love mine too.......I keep staring at my other two heads and keep thinking "hey I need to turn them on".....that's happened one time in the last month.....

I ended up selling like 16 heads after using it as my go to set up with the VHT power amp for a year. I stlll have a Bogner Alchemist a couple of JMPs, and old Bassman and of course anything THD that I use in my studio. But had zero interest in adding any heads in a long time.

How do the effects of the Axe compare with the stompboxes of the world? Are the delays right there with the top crop of delay pedals? Can the phase cop a decent version of a Phase 90? How about a CE-2 like chorus?

I keep thinking that an Axe-fx along with my Fortin cali mod may be more than enough to shut me up for a long time. I like using a POD or Tonelab into my PC through my KRK monitors for playing along with music/recording etc. I know the AXE played direct will smoke the POD's and Tonelabs of the world. And I'm guessing that the Axe used as just an effects processor with the Cali mod would be close enough to my favorite pedals. It's pretty tempting to return my Tonelab and sell my pedals which would get me close to the price for the standard.

HMMMMMMMM. What to do, what to do.

Just played mine for 2 hours - although thats not quiet correct - fighting against the Editor isn't really playing, or is it? lol
Seriously I would need two units though, one for playing over headphones and wanking and one for a live rack, but . . . well, I'm still not a millionaire, so . . .
Very nice unit. Just the editor thing needs to be set up for dummies like myself in a much easier way IMO.

With the new Atomic cabs!

So what's your fav amp sim?

I'm really diggin the recto red and the IIC+ so far but I haven't even gotten through them all yet. I love the parameters that can be adjusted and I can see them all sounding good with just a little tweaking.

Cool. Yeah, they all have the tone and feel. Try the SLO. I liked it a lot. Interested to know what you think. Have fun, lots of stuff in there to enjoy!

Danny the flexability and high quality effects are comparable to any/all lexicon stuff i've ownd/playd thru imo... Honestly, I dont think your gonna find a bad choice in the lot, Bro... the presets are totally flexible and if you sit w/ it for a while I'm SURE you'll pull what you want outa the thing... You know how pissy Ralph or myself get about 'useable tone', sustain, all the fun stuff I'd get outa the mark iv. I'll never sell that head, but I've never had that awesome clean and smokin boogie high gain all in 1 place... You gotta make a trip out and spank this thing for a bit b4 u deceide. lemme know when you've got some free time and feel like taking a long-ass drive an i'll hook u up...

You would quickly realize that you cannot even think of the Axe-FX in the same context as anything Line 6. I still have my Vetta II head but going back and playing through it after the axe-fx is an ear/eye opening experience. And I loved my Vetta until I got the thing...

See what happens when you open your mouth (pun intended..I'll be here all week :hys: )

I am also loving the AxeFx bigtime. The FX are spectacular. I love how the delays sounds so clear and PRO!. It has inspired me to play more and it's a lot of fun. I have really been able to get "my" sound out of it...worth every penny to me :)

bwahahahah! :hys:

One thing that I am finding is that using other peoples presets doesn't seem to work out so well. It seems like it's very rig-specific including guitars, pickups, power amp, cabinets, speakers. I tried quite a few already from axechange and although there are some that are very good, they all need to be tweaked a bit. So pretty much creating your own patches seems like the way to go. This is very different from other modelers. Not like a modeler at all really. I used a Boss gt8 for awhile and this is way out of that league. Really feels and sounds like real amps :D

Are you insinuating something Cliff? Don't tell me you've just maxed out the standard's capabilities and you're going to really differentiate the ultra from now on?
