I would like a tube power source but am short on cash so I can't afford anything that I would consider optimal (VHT or Mesa power) and I have had some issues dialing in live tones that I like so FRFR seemed like the next logical step.
I keep changing my mind though because I have not had any type of what I would consider a "standard" cab in about 8 years hence my current search.
I hear ya, the endless quest for the perfect tone - costing me a small fortune, but I think I'm finally getting closer - to the point where I can sell my vintage ADA gear with minimal concern. Funny you mention the Vox Tonelab LE, that's where I was heading before I stumbled upon the Axe-Fx and convinced myself that burying my credit card past its melting point actually made sense!
It may take me awhile to sort out the FRFR set-up that will work for me, but my bass and guitar preamps are solid. I have a Trace Elliot MP11 preamp for bass, which is simple and provides all the tone management I need for bass - easier to use than the Trace Elliot GP12SMX I had before (plus its programmable), both of which are stupid-simple-to-use and dial-in compared to the ADA MB-1. The Axe-Fx Ultra is, next to my favorite guitars and basses, the best piece of gear I've ever purchased - for what it can do, and what I can do with it in a short time of barely scratching the surface - is well worth the asking price IMHO, it has caused me to rethink everything I do, and convinced me to change how I do things, and sell equipment some of which I've owned since the early '90s!
What FRFRs are you thinking about pairing with your LE?
