FWIW I don't like that it's not symmetric (it's only on the treble side). But I also much prefer solid colors anyway.

As for the OP, consider using a mallet and chisel to gouge it out.
I think its called relic-ing. Seems to be popular these days.

Why do the streaks always seem to be transverse - 90º to the wood-grain direction?
Is it maybe a direction-of-stroke-with-paintbrush-related thing? That's all I can think of.
