I went w/d/w a while back. I was getting frustrated with the rack gear lying on top of my amps. Looked messy and wasn’t convenient. I didn’t like pics of standard rack cases sitting under or on top of amps either so I decided to make one that’s perfectly stackable and blends in.

I grabbed this XTC head shell from the classifieds and fabricated some simple mounting plates to adapt rack gear to it. The plates attach to the mounting points used by the factory front panel. It was fairly simple and it holds 4 rack units perfectly. It’s easy to carry around as well, if needed.

Really well done, cool. I guarantee that someone would invariably ask "what kind of amp is that" ? if taken to a gig.

That is a hell of a good idea, i was toying with that lately, building a headshell and fit my rack gear in there. Might try and score a pre made one like yours.

Thanks for sharing!!!!!!

Wow, I had no idea someone was actually making these. That’s awesome.

Thanks guys for all the comments.

Nice one! I am using the one mission engineering makes for the axe fx since it has a deeper chassis to hold a power amp. I think it’s called the Gemini H. Works perfect on top of a head.

Doesn’t the rack gear stick far out the back?

That was my initial concern. However, all 3 units are shallow enough that they don’t protrude out of the back at all.

That's awesome!! Looks great too.

Do you have a pic of the back? I'd like to check out how you have the MLC wired. :)

Here’s the back side. Ignore all the random cables. I just ordered nice Mogami stuff to wire it all up with. These are just temporary. I also had to unplug one cab from the Matrix to be able to turn it around.

I bought the MLC from Matt (mhenson42). He saved the day by giving me the low down on how to hook it up. It’s intimidating with all the inputs and outputs. I’ll post the instructions he sent me, hope he doesn’t mind. “BE” means the amp and “TC” is the fx unit:

“BE line out ---> MLC Mix 1 IN 1 R (mono) - you can use L too
MLC EXT IN 1 R (mono) ---> TC Input L (or right, just make sure your input on global is set right.

TC Out L ---> MLC Mix 1 IN 2 L
TC Out R ---> MLC Mix 1 IN 2 R

If you want another FX unit there to control with mix 2, go Mix 1 OUT L/R to the other FX unit and back into Mix 2 In 1 L/R, otherwise from above....

MLC Mix 2 OUT L ---> Matrix In L
MLC Mix 2 OUT R ---> Matrix In R

Matrix L/R out ---> Speakers L/R”
