market question for Mk II C/C+ folks

Indeed, 4 times now I've picked up a combo because they are easier to get & the price better, and turned it into a head. I have a guy who makes great custom shells. Every time I'm also able to sell the speaker & combo cab on eBay & get a couple hundred back.

Just got my $2K DR today. It's all there & original. Definitely needs a cap job & service, but that's to be expected. Smells vintage!

Anyway looks like we get to check the theory on how much a fully loaded one will go for. :)

Well... no buyers at $5.5K.

Shocking!

Most of the people I know that would drop cash on one of these arent looking for a short chassis hardwood combo. It's the long heads that get the big bucks.

... if they're spending that sort of coin on an amp, pulling the chassis and spending another $300 on a custom head box shouldn't be a deal breaker for them.

:poke:
It's the rarity of it, for the collector. I have seen those long heads go for over 4k, and combos as well that are clean and are made from a rare wood.
Before I bought the ++ that I have now, that long head original DG was on my radar because I haven't had a simul C+...but it went for 3600. Which is a good deal for a long head, original simul C+.

That right there would kill the value and be a major undertaking. You would have to have a new wood box made, new metal chassis and faceplates then remount all the components. Even if you did all the work yourself I doubt you could do it for 300 dollars.

Noooo... I was saying just to pull the short combo chassis and put it in a new wooden head box... not make a new metal chassis.

I don’t see the added “collectors value” in the long vs short chassis versions personally.

Ok, I thought you meant changing the chassis as well.

Me personally I like the long head because all the controls and switches are on the front. I think this also adds value to the long head because you don't have to reach around to deal with some controls so I see it more than just "collectors value".

Being on a dimly lit stage and not having to screw with controls on the back of an amp especially if it's in a flight/rack case really is convenient.

Some people think a v6 Mustang is plenty of power and see no value in getting the v8 but the reality is the more options the better the value.
