I'm looking to pick up a new cab for my DSL. There are a few on CL that are in the $400-$450 range, but I'm looking at an hour drive just to go test them out. Reviews seem good overall, but some complain that the highs are quite harsh, which doesn't seem like a good mix for the bright DSL. I wish they would mention how long they have had the cab and if the speakers are broken in.

Anyways, the few I'm looking at are a few years old and have had enough play to break in the speaker (according to the sellers).

How do these things sound once the speakers have gotten some use? I'm willing to make the drive if these things have some promise.

The G12T-75's that come stock in these cabs have a more scooped midrange with pronounced highs and lows. These cabs can sound fairly big and allow for great crunch. I never experienced any harsh highs with them, but you may with a naturally bright amp. Although the big lows from these speakers should balance that out.
The price you mentioned seems a bit steep, as I've seen them go used for between $200 and $400 so I wouldn't go over $400 if I were you.
I like slant cabs, but you may want to get a straight if you are worried about the possibility of harsh highs. The straight projection will help make them more tolerable. Nothing I'm sure you don't already know.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Once in a while I do see them come in at < $400, I just wish it were more often. I was going to shoot the guys an offer if I liked them, but I may just let them cycle through CL and see what they do with the price. I also like angled cabs. Since my cab isn't always mic'd, it's nice to be able to tip it on it's side to get a wider beam of sound.

bump

Also, how is the build quality on these things?

I've had my 1960 cab for over 5 years now and it still sounds like new. I use a DSL with it now too and it seems like a great match. I have 75s and warehouse v30s in it and I like the sound I get.

I like the marshall cabs they are not bad ! they definaly have there own sound and are crunchy with the stock g12t75's it depends on what amp and tone your going for but they are a great dependable cab all around.

check this one out i just got for 300 local pickup... I took it apart and tightened everything up and sure enough it sounds really good... its nice mixed with my cameron h30 loaded cab... I needed a beater cab... and i found it ! :D

This is what I was looking to try if I didn't jive with the straight G12T-75s - mix them with some V30s.

Also, do you mind posting your DSL settings? I'm still working on finding that sweet spot with the EQ to get both channels to sound how I'd like them to.

I'm only using the green channel with crunch button in. I'm boosting with a keeley sd-1. I just roll my guitar volume down when I need to go clean without the pedal on.

Sweet!

I've decided to be patient and wait for the next one in decent shape to be posted under $400. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long.

I'm quickly realizing that the green channel with the crunch engaged is where it's at with this amp. I also love how responsive this amp is to your picking attack.
