Speaker changes? I find these speakers to be very very bright and fizzy sounding. I recently brought the 5153 50 watt and not liking whats comming out of it.
However, with my carvin 212 loaded with their version of the V30's, it sounds much better.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to speaker changes on the 1960a cab ?

I ran 2 WGS ET65 and 2 WGS Retro 30 in mine for years and I loved it...if I get another 1960 that's what I'm going back to.

V30's or something similar. If you can find them, the G12T-65's are awesome!

I like CL80's and V30's in an X pattern. I admittedly have never tried the 65's, but every clip I've heard I've liked better than whatever speaker it's being compared too. The 70th anniversary Celestions are also pretty good for high gain.

I really like early 1960A's with well broken in 12T-75's, very different than the modern versions.

I have an old Carvin vertical slanted 2x12 (exterior is carpet) My EVH 50w sounds great through it. In fact, I think I like it more than the matching EVH 2x12. It sounded good with the Carvin speakers. However, I took them out and put in a V30 and CL80 and it sounds even better.

Yup, I ran a 5153 50 watter through a diagonal 2x12 with a CL80 on top and V30 on bottom, was a great sounding rig.

I'm a big fan of the G12M and G12-65. The M is much crunchier sounding, almost like your amp is using more gain IME. But the 65 is beefier and thicker sounding. Either speaker seems to sound great with just about everything.

So is it safe to say that the consensus is that the stock speakers that come with the 1960A cab are pretty fizzy ?

Depends on the year, IMO.

I have a 1960a I bought new in 93 or 94 can't remember ?
Anyway I have several cabs one of my favs is my Bogner angled with all v30's
When I sold a carvin vai legacy to a friend the 1960a with the stock very well broken in gt75's sounded best !! Was a shock to me for sure .
I have since put two v30's and two 30 heritage 70th in an x pattern .
I do like it but one of the speakers still needs broken in .
I also have a trace Elliot with 2v30's on bottom n 2 25watt greenbacks on top n love it !!
It does depend on what you play and want ?

I have V30's in one Marshall and Greenies in another. I prefer the Greenies for most tones.

I replaced the stock T-75s in my 1960A with G12-EVHs and plain old boring Chinese Vintage 30s in an X-pattern and it sounds killer. Sounds much closer to what I imagined a Marshall cab should sound like, loud, dirty, bright but not fizzy, and midrange-focused.

I also had a VM cab, purple cab that's identical to the Hendrix cab. They come with G12C greenies, darker version of a greenback. Sounded great with the 5153 I had...
