Marshall guys... come on in and gloat.

About to add a "Marshall" to my rig. Building a Metro Superlead kit. For starters, it's going to be a stock '69 clone. But eventually it will turn into a late 70's JMP.

I've been accused of being indecisive-- I can't decide if that's true or if I'm just exactingly particular. (Pun intended)  ;)

Fender, Marshall, Mesa, etc... Why choose just one or the other?

Aloha Zach. First off, that is one Hell of a shirt. The kind of thing that acid flashbacks are made of   in a good way of course.

Your rig is magnificent bro, but no way I can swing the rack and switcher that makes it all possible.

Then again, who am I to argue with a man with a shirt like that?

Thanks... I get so many comments on that shirt. I got it because it reminded me of an acid flashback...

Seriously though, re: rack stuff-- A KILLER rig can be put together w/ a switcher (RJM, GCX, Pathmate) and some sleeper gear (Intellifex, Replifex, Dep5, SPX90II, Rane SM26 mixer) for a WAY more affordable entry fee than I think a lot of guys realize.

Marshalls and marshall type circuits just have soul. Ive played a lot of amps and after a while, they bore me. Each Marshall has its own soul.

Very true Jerry. I never let my Marshall's get too dusty. I plugged my Marshall that Jerry @ FJA did for me last year (Camel Toe Mod) through a 74 Marshall cab with the original GB's. Flipped it in the big ass mode and took off. Yep, they got soul.

Steve
Worth the name alone!

Wow, I can't compete with that.

S E R I O U S L Y-- Not a competition brother... I think of us here at this AWESOME forum, as a GIANT support group who encourage each other to reach for our dreams.

I love my JMP. This was my amp through the early/mid 80's but back then I hit it with a TC Line Driver/Dist (still have that too).

yeah... so, I am seriously considering selling off my Mesa gear and going all Marshall. More and more, all the bands and players I enjoy and respect the most use Marshalls. Many of them, who can afford anything and have gone through the gear mill, started off with and end up back with Marshalls (as have many of you fellow forumites).

The only downside I can see is trying to sell gear in this economy. Maybe I should just wait until I can afford to buy another head and start trying out the Marshalls. It sucks being broke and having to sell gear to get new gear.

Right now, I have Mesa Recto rack pieces. Given coming from Recto/5150 land, what is my first stop on the Marshall heavy metal train Rig-Talk? Oh, and toss some mojo and cross fingers for me getting a job soon so I can afford this adventure.

Thanks

If you can swing it get a pair. A good solid 70's Marshall and have Friedman trick it out. I think '72 or earlier are the best but the '74 I think has more gain if that's your trip. We have a 71 and a 74 modded by him so this is coming from experience. Personally I would get a JMP, Super Tremolo or Plexi, stay away from 800's. They are nice but the mod doesn't breath right on 800's IMO. We also have a modded 800, it's nice but doesn't have the openess of the JMP and ST. And then maybe get an early 80's 800 and keep it stock. You would have some great options. If you've come from a Mesa backround an unmodded non-master volume SL might not be your cup of tea. A good old 70's 100 watter modded by Friedman and a stock 800 or JMP with a master.

I am all about the wugga wuggas... and your clip made me itch for a Marshall as much as the AC/DC tribute band I saw last weekend.
