I used to own a 1959HW. I've also owned a mid 90's stock 1959 head and thought the HW sounded significantly better. No transformer issues at all. That being said, I also played two other 1959HWs and they did not sound that great compared to the one that I owned. I know no two amps sound the same, but the differences that I heard have always made me wonder about Marshall's consistency with these HW heads.

The problem with comparing amps like that is there are a number of things that can cause one amp to sound poor compared to another. Without giving them all a tune-up and then comparing, how can you judge consistent quality?

Heck, just put an amp in GC for a month and see how it sounds after it takes a beating.

Wow, that's more than I bargained for... ;)
thanks for the info everyone!
Jim.

Yep that's what I did....... :scared: I don't know much about these things you seem to know more about amps then me  ....WTF....I don't know if you are just being a smart ass........or a dumb ass
I actually know plenty about amps, thanks for asking.

You make it sound (to me) from your initial post that because you replaced three OT's out of the 1000's of these that are probably out there, the series is "crap". You can't tell me or the OP why they blew, they blew for no reason. Your friends paid you to repair amps that would have (under normal circumstances) been covered under the warranty. I dont see why they didnt get them repaired or replaced since they were new.

I played all three out of the box when they got to my dealer. My dealer and I pulled them out of the boxes and I basically picked the best one, which was by far the best sounding. That being said, we did not check the bias or anything like that or swap out tubes, so you're right, my judgment may not have been fair.

Wow George....... now you've been put in your place by the mighty Cameron. I bet you feel all special and stuff too. All us "dumb asses" need to put in our place from time to time by the all knowing. Like I said George, dont question....... just join the group, puker up, latch on and swing from the nut sack.

This post got way out and the only thing I would like to say is George is a respected and great guy.

I've never seen guys get so offended over someone having a down opinion about an amp. Makes you wonder why! I'm sure if he came in here and talked bad about Krank's, you guys would have no problem with that.

Its not about him having a down opinion on a amp its about how he talked down to George when all George did was ask some legit questions...... that was the issue.

This is the type of immature shit that has me wondering if the Internet is a good thing afterall.

Chris

It's like everything else... you have to take the good with the bad. If it werent for the net I wouldnt have learned so much about cool gear, independant amp builders, meet cool people on forums like this but with that comes with all the other stuff.

True, but the lack of respect for others, making people feel like they "need" to defend their personal choices, spreading totally false info about quality or tone, etc... are getting old to me. Really old.

And the truth is that I got all wrapped up in that same crap too. Then it hit me one day that it's stupid, rude, and just not how people should be.

This is very true.

In case anyone's wondering...this morning I woke up with an erection.

:hys: :hys: Yeah but was it a hand wired erection or a reissue? Because some evidently have had issues with the hand wired erections going out on them. :D

No diodes or pcb crap. Think "Smiling Bob" but more organic. No drugs, just pure beef.

I have a Hendrix Marshall super 45/100 and have played it dimed for hours without a hiccup. Flawless performance thus far. Perhaps I should send it to Mark though. He could probably turn it into something outstanding.

No your not....I'm gonna get that amp and do that very thing....lol!! :D

Thanks for the personal attack too. :)

Not offended at all. You don't find it odd that replacing 3 OT's and not knowing why they blew up means a whole line of amps are crap? How many other amps are out there working just fine?
