To those who own the JVM, how does it work for low volume practice?

Also how do you feel it compares to the older models it can supposedly mimic. Does it give a decent recreation of Plexi and JCM800 tones, or does it fall short?

Sounds great low volume. Like any good tube amp it sounds better cranked.

I feel like the JCM 800 tones out of it are ok. Not the greatest but still pretty good. I really like the JTM45 and 1959 tones though. And I really like the high gain. I think overall it is a killer amp. Had it since early 2007 and mine ain't going nowhere.

It works well for low volume practice
It does OK jobs of the plexi and 800, but lacks a little (depends on what volume you compare them at)
I dont think its quite as toothy as an 800, or quite as glorious and majestic as a plexi, but its passable in a pinch ;)
It does have some great tones all its own, and the clean channel is pretty good. The reverb is very good if you use reverb
Despite all the haters, I've kept mine. Its a swiss army knife amp, I've had one for 3-4 years with no issue's

For marshall tones, I would have to go for either a 2203x or the JVM. The JVM obviously gets the nod for features and versatility but I dont want to sacrifice tone. 2203x just sounded like a beast though when I played it in the store, but dont think it would be very effective at lower levels, plus not nearly as versatile as a JVM. With the 2203x, I feel like I would be stuck using the low input since I would want less volume, and I feel this neglecting the true power of the amp.

Wish I could buy a JTM45 or 1987x, 2203x, AND a JVM and have all my tones covered in all of their glory!!

So you would say the JCM800 tones out of the JVM are a little smoother sounding than the actual JCM800 amp?

Also want to know what amp they are releasing for the anniversary!!

hmmm...... yeah, I guess, a little. I would lean towards the 800 being a bit more "alive and chunkier" if that makes any sense

Do tell????

http://marshallamps.com/ look at bottom of site, they have a countdown.

To be fair, they have not said a word about any amp yet, but I would be expecting a new amp, or atleast a reissue will come out as a result of this. Just like the silver jubilees which were released for the 25th anniversary, I think it is safe to expect a amp to be released for the 50th anniversary.

Yep-been covered. Can definitely do the low volume if necessary (and do it well) but cranked is still preferred.

One hell of an amp-you wouldn't be disappointed.

I really dig my JVM 410H. I've used it for quite a few gigs and (despite having bought it used) its been 100% trouble free. I only use the 1st green channel and the red and yellow modes of the 3rd channel, and they sound great at low volumes and really great at band volumes. It has cool remote switching ability as well.

I love my JVMS... Never selling ever!

Overdrive Orange/Yellow with boost is one the best tones it has... FWIW I never use the red mode, I think booting the yellow mode is much better.

I have the 210 and think it's great at low volumes. Excellent cleans, tons of gain on tap. A great modern Marshall.

My band mate has one, as well as another friend of mine. They both like their amp's a lot, but I've heard them complain that they find it a little fizzy in the top register.

Satch mentioned in most recent issue of Guitarist that they're working on a Signature JVM for him. All channels modded I believe, with channel 1 geared towards his preferred 30th Anniversary clean. I presume so he can jam his signature pedals into it? Not sure whether this will be for the anniversary though. I was thinking the other day why don't Marshall release a 'boutique' modded amp with a sort of amalgamation of all the greatest mods other manufacturers are doing.

We've been asking that question for years..
Why not take one of Mike's, Dave's, or Marks mods and build it into a production amp? We may never know
Although I would say the JVM was a viable attempt at building a fire-breather for them, it has a TON of gain on tap in the orange and red modes, and being able to switch between the modes is pretty cool. It was something the DSL guys wanted for a long time. Some of them made the switching-between-modes thing themselves, with great results

Very nice family shot

And if you haven't seen it, there's a JVM on the classifieds for a much more than fair price! Someone should really jump on it before I give in to my GAS!
