I was thinking the other day why don't Marshall release a 'boutique' modded amp with a sort of amalgamation of all the greatest mods other manufacturers are doing.

We've been asking that question for years..
Why not take one of Mike's, Dave's, or Marks mods and build it into a production amp? We may never know
Although I would say the JVM was a viable attempt at building a fire-breather for them, it has a TON of gain on tap in the orange and red modes, and being able to switch between the modes is pretty cool. It was something the DSL guys wanted for a long time. Some of them made the switching-between-modes thing themselves, with great results

I guess you're right about the JVM being a sort of Kitchen Sink type affair but it doesn't quite have the vibe of the boutique gear. It feels more like a response to the triple rec style of amp. But the more I think about it, the more it baffles me why they don't have a boutique division. They have the handwired series, why not put something in there. Seemples!
