I don't know about his mods, but I hear he is THE guy who services and repairs Joe Holmes real Jose modded Marshalls. I've been thinking of hitting him up to see if he can do an exact duplication of Joe's Jose mods. All I hear about him locally is that he does top-notch work.

Yeah i read that too!

Also he has worked on/and regularly services Doug Aldrich's live rig and his main 79 JMP Marshall

He works/worked for Custom Audio Electronics.
Doug Aldrich's main Marshall has Martin's mod.

You know the Doug thing doesn't interest me as much. I think Dougs tone was better 20 years ago then now. Joe Holmes tone 10 years ago was as good as Doug's 20 years ago

I think Doug's tone on the Dio - Evil Or Divine dvd was as good as his tone was 20years ago.. Infact to me, on that dvd i enjoy his tone more than Joe Holmes' tones!

But im not enjoyin Doug's tone in Whitesnake anywhere near as much as Dio, or the early days with Lion/Hurricane/House Of Lords etc

Yeah..doug's tone on the evil or devine dvd was superb...well ive decided to phone martin this evening from the uk..
see if i can get some idea of the mods he does...

+1 Same for his playing, in my opinion. I've said this before, but Dio made Doug tame down his playing and forced him to be more melodic and musical. That's the Doug playing I like the most. Well, that and those videos on YouTube of Doug playing songs from his solo album (where he has a strat and funny hat.)

Yeah i agree with that too Chris! He seems to shred a lot more in Whitesnake, whereas in Dio he still shredded a lot but it was a lot more melodic and soulful.

Do you have that Electro-Lesson DVD? Thats what those solo videos are from. Its a Young Guitar DVD and he plays three songs, aswell as going over the aspects of his playing style, and licks.

Yeah, I have that on VHS tape I think, but I can't remember where it's at. lol... Those vids on YouTube rock, though. That's the Doug Aldrich I like. He "wanked" a little too much for me on his other projects.

His tone and playing here is killer!

 I have that DVD too, its really cool to just watch and get inspired!!

That guitar is one of two original late 60s Strats Doug had. He still has the 1968 but he sold the 1969 he used in those videos to a guy i know here in the UK. Lucky bastard :D :gethim: John Suhr did all the pickups and wiring for Doug for both guitars. Doug said they were the most quiet + noiseless Strats he owned, and by far the fattest sounding! Think it had an early version of John Suhr's Silent Singlecoil gadget in there maybe...

Do you like the Burning Rain albums at all? I enjoy them a lot and Doug slows down and plays some really tasty licks in some of the more ballady songs, yet tears it up on the harder songs!!

Lion/Hurricane better soloing and tone IMO

Trouble in Angel City is by FAR my favorite of all Doug's stuff! Rediculously good playing and the tone is perfect!

To me Doug best tone is on "Slave To The Thrills"... in that album Doug's tone is superb.
I prefer it to those Lion album, IMHO.
(Dan also knows which is my faves Doug's tone... :D )

I like that one as well, I just don't like the fact that the mixor the tone has so much effects on it.
You are right though the tone is there though.

Well i like the Hurricane tone, but its so overly wet that it doesnt sound punchy enough. They mixed way to much FX on his guitar sound and its kinda processed sounding. The Lion stuff is my favorite, its so damn punchy and cutting in the mix!

To me the other REAL Doug's tone is on I'm The One on that VH tribute album (Little Guitars 2000). Direct and punchy.
