Specifically Marshall 2204. Seems to sound the best to me when played thru an old JCM-800 cab with G12-65's. Never played thru Greenbacks. Do not like it thru the newer G12-75's. Thought I liked it thru a Marshall slant cab with Vintage 30's and G12H-30's in an x pattern, but returned to the JCM-800 cabinet. So where did this V30-G12H-30 x pattern come from? Was it to complement a specific head or give a specific sound?

G12H has solid low end and kind of a zingy high end, and V30s have a distinct midrange cut, so the combination makes sense on paper.

2204 sounds great with G12Ms. They're much "crunchier" than the smooth G12-65; it'll sound like adding more gain to the amp IME. I ultimately stuck with the G12-65 too, but G12Ms sounded great.

I have a 2204 clone and use it with 3 cabs:

4x12 slant w/EVH Greenbacks
4x12 straight w/mix of G12-65 Heritage and WGS ET-65's
4x12 straight w/G12T-75's

I have tried about every speaker (or combination of) that you can think of and the cabs above give me the best variation and all around good tone. More times than not I'm plugging into the Greenback cab.

I like every one of them equally. Just depends on what style I'm playing at the time. That being said, I did not like the V30/G12H30 mix at all.

-the "ANNIE's" -(G12H)-might be the worst speaker I have ever had the misfortune of owning,.. couldn't get them out of my cab fast enough-

My personal favorite is the G12 65s. However, an early G12T75 cab sounds very close to 65s, with a bit more top end. Nothing like the T75s most hate. I have one of each, and a G12C 425a cab. Tried EVs, V30s, and G12Ms and those first three sound best to my ear with an 800. Jubilees are a great match for V30s. 65s sound great with every amp I've had..just a great hard rock speaker.

-you must have the "vented" 75's... Some people put a couple coats of acetone on there 75's,... supposed to take out the harshness,.... If I had some I'd be willing to be the sacrificial lamb... Who here will try this for the betterment of the RIG TALK minion's!!
