Meditation…… it helps ^_^

It’s really just a hippie way to say “ Take your mind off it” then ?

Nah. @The~Kid is on point. Meditation is a great way to calm your mind if you experience stress and anxiety regularly. It has nothing to do with any kind of religious, political or cultural identity. The difference between meditation and "taking your mind off things" is it's an active tool you can use to prevent internalizing negative feelings so they don't resurface in ways that cause harm to yourself or others.

My fave form of meditation is simply putting music on and meditating under a bright light……

Don’t know why but this has always helped me when it comes to solving problems.

I started meditation was when I was the 18 doing yoga. I never really saw it as meditation and more as a work out to help me perform better as I was a cyclist on a road bike when I was younger. I would ride 30 miles each day to the beach and back to train, do yoga, run, lift weights, plyo etc etc. Once I rode about 80 miles to Hollywood and back to train for 100 mile event. I was really dedicated and it payed off and got top 100 climbing about 3300 feel on the bike up the Mountain…… shit was tough and the meditation helped especially in higher altitudes I never really trained in before….. its a bitch on the lungs especially If you smoke cigs.

I always mainly used it for recovery and during yoga but eventually would use it to help home think better when problem solving and critical thinking.

It actually works ImO and ImE and yeah I definitely reccomend it for a healthy and clear mindset ^_^

It seems different than (orthodox) prayer to me. Centering is like "clearing" the mind and thinking/doing nothing then? Like a shutdown of the stream of consciousness?

I'm not an expert, obviously, but shutting down our own stream of consciousness once in a while is a positive thing to do for mental health. Our thoughts are our greatest ally and worst enemy.

I do recommend you give the Tao Te Ching a try, just as a personal challenge or as cultural enrichment. It is not a religious text. It might be considered a spiritual or philosophical treatise, though. It's just a different way of thinking about the nature of our own existence.

But you’re not explaining how it does that other than describing it as a way to make you not focus on whatever it is that’s troubling you.

I understand the concept of meditation, I don’t understand the reality of it. It seems like it’s just internal reflection.

I mean there are different kinds of meditation but namely the ones where you let your thoughts go….. I use this before a work out and meditate for like 5-10 min before a work out or to recover.

And the other is the opposite where you focus on your thoughts and in yoga This is called drishdi or simply “focus point”…… use this for during a work out or to problem solve.

I guess its hard to explain and its sort of like Yoda says where trying doesnt explain it as well as doing……

And yeah its 100% free.

Okay, well it's not up to me to prove anything to you here. This isn't science, it's well being. I'm just relaying my personal experience and things that I've found helpful for my own personal growth. I hope you might try it if it helps you but if not, that's fine.

One thing that helped especially for working but for performing on the bike was these things called chakras……this helped when working out intensely or training hard or during performing and yeah also when trying to problem solve.

I havent really meditated using chakras in a while but its probably something Im going to do more of.

Normally not really into hippy dippy shit and will admit and agree with @Floyd Eye it is hippy dippy shit….. but ImE it works and well mainly just use it for work out, recovery and problem solving although many take it to some spiritual level or well hippy dippy shit I use it for practical means for body and mind……. Not sure about the soul but in terms of body and mind it doesnt hurt but YMMV.
