Great band and killer player. I always though he sounded like a cross between Vai, Nuno and Brian May ... Mood Swings is their best work IMO.
A lot of the AOR/Melodic rock bands suffer from the "2 or 3 great tracks, rest is filler" syndrome.
As far as other bands of that kind of consistent quality, I'd recommend:
Danger Danger (esp. the stuff with Paul Laine-Cockroach, Great Gildersleeves and 4 the Hard Way)
Giant- Last of the Runaways and Time to Burn (Dann Huff is the master!!)
