The reissue I played on the voice was definitely different than the vintage amps.
 
Read closely, this has a built in boost/drive circuit that is switchable. Basically, it sounds like they did what people have been saying for years and put a tubescreamer on a switch built in to the amp.

Read closely. It says Graphic EQ Reverb Fx Solo.

not sure how I feel about a boost circuit in my mamp. I'd rather that be switcheable out front. On my pedal board. I was hoping for a C or F switch :yes: Or dark tread chrome tread switch
 
You know, the description doesn’t talk at all about the amp being a 90’s Reissue.

I wonder if it is just a Multi-Watt with some extra boost circuit at the input, but the employee doesn’t know anything about high gain and just googled “Mesa Recto” and posted the first pic he saw, which honestly probably would be the latest black-chassis DR 90’s Reissue given its recent release and marketing push.

Chicago Music Exchange is a very guitar-centric (in other words, not amp-centric) shop. They really don’t know much about high gain over there so maybe it’s just a flat-out wrong photo.
 
The description is just for a multi watt 3 channel recto. The pic is just a regular reissue. I believe the mod shop ones would just be where you can get different head shells, cosmetics etc.

Hmm….I rechecked and they do list additional like the pre boost and a Graphic EQ. Would be wild to see a graphic EQ on a recto if the description is even correct. Maybe there’s no pic because you would have to order it and they haven’t even made it yet 🤷‍♂️

Apparently they are doing a modded or updated multi-watt version. Don't know the amount produced yet. Has a boost, And refined the clean channel and other two channels with an added boost if you want to use it. Tighter low end, Better touch dynamics apparently same stuff guys been doing for years just out of the factory.
 
I'm of two minds about a built-in boost mod like that.

On one hand, I'm sure that whatever built-in boost Gibson/Mesa chooses to mod into the amp out of the dozens of ones people use, it will ultimately be the wrong one...
(because it won't be the TC side of the Peppers Dirty Tree)

But on the other hand, I'd bet a ton of guitar players who have no idea what they're doing (like for example, me back when I first tried a Recto many moons ago after only having started playing guitar a year or two prior) are initially put off by a stock Recto because when they try one out in a music store, they hear a non-boosted flubby mud machine and walk away confused and disappointed, like I did. At least a built-in boost could give them something close to what the amp can really do when it's just sitting by itself on a cab in the store. Later once they figure things out, they can disable the built-in boost and use their own.

To be honest, something that simple could have saved me years of GAS and chasing some dragon that was right there in front of me the whole time.
