Hello guys I m looking to buy one mesa boogie rev c or rev f in a good condition.

I have a very early Rev F. It doesn't sound like the later versions to me as I think those versions attenuate the highs. When I bought it used it had an unusual preamp brand tube configuration which I replaced with all gold pin Groove Tubes. While it still sounds very good, it lost that tone it had when I first bought it and now I'm kicking myself,lol.

If you can get the Rev. C, I would. Aren't those one of the"pre-500" grail tone amps? When George Lynch sold his, he said that those sounded very good and were unlike any of Boogies later offerings. IIRC, he was selling them to buy an Uberschall at the time.

not really knowing so much about boogie rectos until i recently heard a modded recto owned by someone who recently posted a vid of it... and since then i wanted to know more about Rectos...

but how to distinguish the Rev C and the Rev G ?

i know revision F does come with a chrome faceplate, black diamond with a black venting panel,

however i also see black faceplate that comes with black diamond but with chrome venting panel

and the latest i guess all comes with chrome diamond and chrome venting panel.. does it contribute to identify each revision?

The revision is printed on the circuit board inside the amp, if you remove the chasis from the head shell you'll see the printed revision near the big blue caps. Don't touch the caps without discharging them or they'll discharge on you and could kill you. Look, don't touch.

There are many ways to tell what revision the boogies "might" be, but the best way is as stated above, check the main board by the blue caps. and don't kill yourself!

There are some confusing combinations, in terms of chassis plating and headshell combinations. and other various things that were supposed to only be on certain revisions, and on these two pages below they will tell you about the anomalies.

Truthfully I think there are some made up facts or at the very least because tone is subjective and the power of mystical things can alter what really is the truth so just use your ear.

I just bought 2 blackface Dual recs picking the second up on sunday but these will be the 11th and 12th Mesa Dual recs I would have owned over the last 16 years.


I am going back full circle!

I hear ya, DiezelMonster. Ive had my Dual Rec since I bought it new in '94. It still blows me away with killer sounds. I think some of that is because the Rectifiers are an original recipe in some ways. They pretty much defined the bassy, growling modern metal sound. More or less, they are the benchmark for those tones.

Over the twenty years I've had mine, I've heard several other great sounding amps. However, besides my Uberschall, I havent felt compelled to purchase many. I grabbed the Uber because of its darker voicing, and would love to someday add the modded-Marshall goodness of a Bogner XTC (or possibly Helios). However, for raw aggressive metal sounds, the good ol' Dual Rec still delivers.

How much money for the revF?

I have find one revF and haves serial number 1716.This one have MarkIII?

The headshell and color combo has absolutely nothing to do with revisions. The only way to be SURE it to check the board. I picked mine up at Boogie back in '92 when they were in NY. Had my choice of quite a few heads and tried em all. At the time they werent even in 1000's as far as serial #'s. Using one set of tubes for each amp, I wound up picking up a REV.C that sounded fantastic. Didnt know what revision it was and didnt care. It was only years later I pulled the chassis cause I was curious. I grabbed a full diamond plate stack at the time too, and the top was their prototype. Man, those were good times! I can tell you for certain their were some headshell swapping to match chrome/chrome and black/black. Thats why I wouldnt rely on that to check revisions. Hope that helps. Oh yea, I still own them all, along with a modded Mark IV Mike B. did for me.

Basically the mod was to give it the character of the Mark ii C+ but with a bit more gain on tap. Pre and power section were both done.
