Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ vs Mesa Boogie Mark IV - Metal

Here's a better A B , using a clean boost and no boost in the 2nd part of the clip

Well this ain't a fair comparison to me. The IIC+ is stereo while the Mark IV sounds mono. If the Mark IV was a stereo track it would sound much bigger... all that said I still prefer the clarity and mids of the IV. The IIc+ sounds a little blurry and hairy by comparison. Don't get me wrong though, they both kill!

Nope, they are both mono :)

There are two tracks when the IIC+ first starts out, first on the right, then the left track comes in. When the Mark IV comes in it's a single track right down the center. That's why I say that. Go back and listen to what you recorded, dude. Anyone with ears can hear this.

In the comments it explains the different panning situations. That first clip is both amps panned apparently. I was confused just from watching the video at first also.

0:00 - 1:35 Mix mark IIC+ left side. mark iv right side (standard tuning) 1:36 - 2:17 Mix (drop tuning) 2:20 Mark IIC+ mono (standard tuning) 3:54 Mark IIC+ mono (drop tuning) 4:37 Mark IV mono (standard tuning) 6:14 Mark IV mono (drop tuning)

Edit - all the clips sound pretty awesome to me

I'm talking about the last clip he posted, not the first.

thx a lot man!

Here's another short A B video. This time I am using slightly different settings for the 2 amps Signal : Amp - Esp Eclipse CTM - Suhr Reactive load - Reaper - IR (edge -1 guitar hacks ) Don't mind the sloppy playing :) In my opinion I feel that the mark IV is one of the best recording amps I have ever used! It feels like it has all the right frequencies for a good recording. Also, the gain structure is amazing, no need for a boost of course! When recording, the Mark IIC+ needs more tweaking and messing with some pull , push shifts and the eq of course! But when it comes to playing straight into the cab I think I slightly prefer the 2C+

That's the shit right there. Sounds brash and mean. I heart the Mark series.

Circuit …I’m guessing
A resonance mod for a IIC+? isn't that have something to do with the negative feedback or something? Kinda like with the Mark IV with the presence pushed, as it has no negative feedback which deepens the low end and loosens up the response a bit?? I wonder?

Isn't the pull deep good enough? I've never had a problem getting enough bass response out of a IIC+ (the very few times i've played one). It's not recto big, but it's good enough. if it's not enough, get a IV. Or get a coliseum... they got such big power sections that give them a lot of low end.

I'm so glad you put settings and signal chain into these. So useful and hardly anyone does it. I love my Mark IV and this helps me with wanting a 2c+ too bad. Having said that I can't explain it like you guys can but the 2c+ always has that... I don't want to say boxiness cause that's not really it, and I don't want to say hollow sound cause that ain't it either but its a sound I haven't gotten out of a IV. There was a Deadpool comic that said his voice is like gasoline and gravel and for some reason that's what I equate that tone too.

I seem to remember S.O.D. use a TC integrated pre with a Marshall (maybe I'm misremembering). But it always sounded like a Mesa mark to me

Didn't the OP post some clips of a TC pre into a jmp 2203 a little while ago when he had that marshall? anyways compared to his IIC+ it was surprisingly very similar with the same IR. A mark series is essentially an amp with a pre-amp booster built inside kinda, that's why you don't need a OD pedal with one.

Yeah he did a bunch of thrash classics on it. He nails it on both so that makes me question reality a bit. I never messed with any TC pedals just some clones/takes on those circuits. I love that tone that Anthrax had during nfl to state of euphoria, S.O.D. and Overkill(years of decay era). All of those just sound crushing IMHO. So I'm guessing we could in theory get close to any of those tones with the right speaker(IR) and/or pedal minus the hands.

Honestly I really like my tone on my main amps but it would be nice to get these while jamming some of these songs. Another one I wish I could get would be Beneath the Remains/Arise Era sepultura which I also think is a Mesa 2c.
