Electra dyne can't rip like the royal

With a BB Preamp it does and with more bottom end, but less of that mid crunch.

The electro dyne has one setting. :aww:
The royal gives u two eq's
That's a big deal !!!!

Dan you are right about the electro dyne and a good boost pedal, I have one here and with my 82 tube screamer it kicks ass. It is thicker than the royal. Great amp if you don't mind using a boost.

Well sold Herbert and bought a branny new one. If I don't like it in a week I'll take it back for a triple rect!
Sux got it home and sick as a dog. Didn't even open it.dam!

True, but if I get a decent clean I don't get that picky about it, the Electra Dyne gets a good enough clean with the trim. I think the Royal would have been even better though if the crunch and lead had their own gain controls, but I liked it as it was and could see a lot more tones available if you used a Tube Screamer or something. But I like both amps a lot and I think I'll end up with both.

And yes, I like the Royal more than any Diezel I've played but I did like the Herbert and VH4 when I played them, just like the Royal more. I won't say Mesa finally nailed the "british" tone they keep talking about. They just have simple to dial in great sounding amps finally with the ED and Royal.

Agreed, Mesa has been making great amps lately, even for Marshall lovers.

If ya want a Marshall buy a Marshall
If ya want a Mesa buy a Mesa

I don't think royal sounds like a marshall. I think it has characteristics of it but def Mesa tone.

Mesa has been trying to be Marshall sounding lately and it is helping them to make better sounding amps.
They are learning from the master. :D

Yeah but building better amps than the master.
Student rises above master.mesa build quality is wicked unreal. They can air drop there products like ups ships things. But will take the blow.

Marshall :aww:
Mesa

Dam been jamming this ra100 for a solid week now... amazing i just love the raw tone! clean is magical reminds me of a fender twin... hi gain really is like Marshallish feel Definate Mesa Tone somewhere between mark n recto...

Now which mesa cab standard or oversize recto!

The Royal is really something else, I surprising found that I like running the mids fairly high and the bass a little lower. It sounds best to me with the Gain around 2:00 or lower and using a heavy hand technique. It's a different beast than my Mark V, (naturally deeper voicing, and a slightly looser attack) but it's extremely versatile in a more user friendly package. It's a super thick sounding amp, but still retains this incredibly tight character. That is a combination I have not found in any other amp, at least one that did it as well. I was expecting it to be more "Splawn-ish" than it was, it had some characteristics of a Quickrod or Nitro but with that Mesa, thick, wall of sound, It's a different beast all on it's own. Daily, I have thoughts of trading my V for the Royal, but I'm afraid I would miss things about my V. However, I know that some day I will own it, it's just a matter of how soon. I'm curious how the RA would sound with a good Clean boost, It may add that touch of gain to push it over the top!

Defiantly a hint of nitro in there but it does what the nitro never could do. Always wanted to break the gain knob to go around another half turn.

That said the royal is the best Mesa I ever owned n played. Funny I really wanted the new reborn triple n I played it side by side went home w ra. No looking back. It's even darker thru k100s.

Lo gain side has a big honking bite to it.

I'm just fkn around trying to find the right delay w it.

Wonder if the ra100 can be modded

So what exactly did you not like about the low gain mode? Have you compared the RA to the ED, does the ED do that better?

Yes played em both. Ed has one eq shared. Ra has two. I don't use the ol side. Just thought I can have it tweaked to a diff crunch. I love the hi gain like a tight ass version of a mark meets recto.

I've had the ED for awhile now and have really liked it. To me it's been sort of like an extension of my Recto that excels at chunky, low-to-mid gain sounds that the Recto has never really excelled at. The two amps A/B really well, and their voices jive if you run both simultaneously.

The thing I like about the shared EQ is that I can adjust a couple of knobs between songs and not have to worry about rebalancing all three channels.

I'd love to try an RA some day, but I need another amp like I need another hole in my head.

Lets hear some clips of what that thing will do. Sounds very interesting. ;)
