i gots the original plate but I love this... smashed mirror thru plexi glass I was bored....it was snowing like a bitch so I stayed home from work n this is what i accomplished..

That looks great, Cujo. I was contemplating getting one. As a new user, how are you liking this amp? I played it a couple of times and am still on the fence. Whaddaya think about it overall, cleans, low gain, high gain?

I like the Royal, but I find the 20th Ann Bogner Shiva kills it for classic rock to metal....cleans as well. I was thinking of getting one but my Shiva covers that territory better....but I paid for it! LOL. :D
I had a multi watt Dual Rec and they are great but I think the older Dual Recs and Rectoverbs destroy it. I compared my multi watt next to my friend's 1998 Rectoverb and his Rectoverb was so much bigger, fatter, juicier sounding, much better.

I actually like an Electradyne with an OD for high gain over the Royal. With a BB Preamp or better yet the Sonic Edge J&J, it crushes. Sounds bigger than the Royal. Thicker and fatter than the Royal. It is a much better deal to get a used ED and use a boost!

Then again, I hate metal, so I might not be the best guy to ask if you are looking for a metal amp.

In the end, my favorite Mesa is a late 90s Rectoverb. :)

Royal covers it all psychedelic country rock metal jazz. I'm really not into a pissing war over which is better. Played Ed, triple, roadster n walked out w royal.

Diezel still is holy grail!

Spent some time with a Royal and a Trans Atlantic yesterday at GC. Damn, the Royal can cover some ground. The low mode of Ch 2 was like instant brown sound territory. Hi mode was darker, smoother and of course... higher gain. The TA did a lot of what the RA did, and I liked one of its sounds a bit better... the mid gain growl on the TA was gnarly. The RA did both cleans and high gain way better, though. It is definitely a well executed hot rod marshall sound, by way of Boogie. I am waiting on a mini 5153, but I may lose my patience and by the RA.

Dan.....didn't you say the ED with a boost pedal shat all over the Diezel Einstein? Diezels are too stiff and metal. Not sore me at all. I had a Herbert and could not sell it fast enough! Yuk. So, you can see it is all personal preference. For my tastes, a late 90s Rectifier destroys most new mesas for fat tone from classic rock to hard rock. I hate metal, if you have not already heard, LOL.

I'm sorry  What do you play? I guess for what I play it's hard rock to metal. But ra100 can do anything. I dont care if your playing ra-gay it'll do it. But Herbert can do it all too. My opinion

Mesa are built to unreal specs. They r almost bulletproof. Very few amps have the extreme build quality of Mesa......
