Mesa Casters

We've broken three wheels off the Mesa cab we gig with in the past few months. One was weird. We switched it with a good one from the cab in the jam room and kept rolling. The second one was a few days later, and one over the weekend. They are all snapping at the base where the shaft is pressed on the plate. I'm starting to worry about the last one.

My guitarist is buying replacement casters, since he's using the cab. I've been getting the ones off his cab, and he's getting the new ones. I just find it weird that they are all going bad at the same time. Anyone else have this problem?

I’ve never had Mesa casters break. Ernie Ball/Marshall break all the time or rip out of the cabinet though. Weird dude.

Hence ya concern am also worry about my cueerntly VHT412 where i currently have three heavy amp heads sitting on it stacked... its been long but i dont move the whole stack around.... whats ya weight load on ya mesa cab ?

You're probably the first person to break Track-Lock casters.

The cab lived in my trailer for several years. It's seen a lot of shows. Maybe I should be more gentile when leading up?

They are probably the most heavy duty I have seen on music gear. Busting several would be ambitious.

I have a few mesas with casters, and they are the most solid suckers I have ever seen. Never broke one.

I even got a set of the Mesa casters for my Friedman 212 cab. They are fantastic. In any of the years I've owned Mesa amps with them on, never had a break or issue. Easily the best out there. Very heavy duty.

I've used them for years... and I have even installed them on different manufacturers cabs, cause they are bullet proof. Zero issues on my end.

The only thing special about those is the way you mount them to the cab. The actual caster that goes into the track lock system is just a commercially available caster with a hard rubber wheel like you would find on lots of other amps.

If you roll cabs hard across rough surfaces and up into venues then all the little press-fit joints in the caster system will loosen up over time. This is especially bad with stem casters as someone else mentioned. If you want a durable caster you're better off going to McMaster Carr and getting an upgraded caster with a slightly softer wheel that will roll smoother and last longer. You just need to know the plate dimensions and the size of wheel you want.

What size Mesa caster do you recommend for my Friedman 4X12. I see different sizes 2" or 3". Thanks

The plate dimensions are 2 3/8" X 2 3/8"

I started looking around and found a replacement candidate from Walmart for cheap. I might upgrade to these.

I use a very similar caster on my bass cabs. That softer rubber is much more durable and easier on the cabs for vibration. The bigger wheel doesn't hurt either.
