Yes, but Im considering keeping it, I cant get this tone elsewhere.

As far as sliders, it isnt as drastic as the 4, but off delivers major heavy rock tone!

$peakers are heritage 65 and classic lead 80, and delay is tc flashback.

That's what I thought, fully loaded when I heard the amazing sound in your video.

You know a lot of people say "I had a IIC+ and I did not think it was all that great, I have a MkIV or V that sounds just as good." Then I ask them if it was a fully loaded one, they usually answer that it was either a IIC that was upgraded or it was the 60watt version or it did not have the simul-class, etc.

Like I said you got to go fully loaded and when you go C+ or go home.

Fatbagg's head is a IIC upgrade.

I had an upgrade w/simul, geq, reverb, and an x-101 transformer. I sold it, got a loaded III red stripe, and couldn't be happier.

Ye, mine is a born 1983 IIC, and a 1984 IIC+, converted while they were actually pumping them out at the time. Interesting. So yes, its an upgrade, but an original upgrade, haha!

Amazing.

I suspect that's why it sounds so good.

All the upgrades I heard were done much later, so I am curious as to how they changed over the years.

Here is a actual thread on the Boogie forums discussing the differences:

So, I know there are a few different "stripes" and I am wondering if anyone knows what the sequence of stripes is and what differences are in each.

Tall order I know, but Mesa seems to have let the web page expire or something, thew one with the info. I think clarity would helpful here.

I LOVE the tones you are getting, yet if there are other options to get very close, even just close, then it could be worth exploring.

Stripes I know of are below, not necessarily in order:
-None or black dot (this is the first version)
-Red
-Blue
-Purple
-Green (this is the final version)

Any info would be greatly appreciated...

Better off going with Mesa rack gear if you want to get "close" to a true C+. A early triaxis with a Strategy 400 is one way that I personally know of that will get you 95% of the way there. I know people were using the Quad preamp and 2:90 with good results. Look on the Boogie forum for more advise.

Sure some of the mkIIIs sound good but compared to a real IIC+, I would not say they get "close". There is a reason they sell for 8-900 as opposed to 4k or more like the real C+s.

+1 to the above

My Quad/2:90 setup sounds as good (if not better) than the 3 real deal, not converted C+'s that I owned.

The original site is gone, but check this archive: http://web.archive.org/web/201110102002 ... e/dot.html

Excellent source of info on old Boogies. Here is a summary of the stripes, taken from the link above:
#1 - No mark or a little dot. Only a few hundred then some balck marks or "+"'s .

- Lean and powerful amp with more output power than a IIC+

#2 - Purple: reshaping of R2

- R2 was shaped to be more "rounded" and less gain, with improved level

#3 - Red: R2 is like current Mark III

- R2 further developed and very hot. Lead mode is also tweaked to close in on the IIC+ sound

#4 - Blue: Reshaping of R1

- More aggressive preamp gain - reshaping of R1, Power section made akin to IIC+

#5 - Green/Simul-Class: Final R1 and Lead Channel reshaping

- Cleaner R1, Lead channel reshaping, and unlike other Simul amps, these Mark III's were wired in Pentode - NOT triode in the Class A sockets for more power. Power section is same as Blue otherwise.

Yeah, a lot of subjectivity on how to get close to the C+. Gain wise, I think my red stripe gets me there; cleans and feel-wise is the where I see the delta.

Maybe my upgrade was a 'new' upgrade, no idea when it was converted.

Well guys, I bought a fully loaded IIC+ months ago for $1200 SHIPPED. Deals are out there, you have to find them. Well, in my case Guitar Center thought it was a Mark III. Long story short, I sold it for $2600 and picked up a no stripe Mark III. Yes, it gets close, in fact the Mark III has more gain and sounds more agressive. The III is that angry Mesa tone and the IIC+ is smoother, but I feel you CAN tweak the III to get very very to the IIC+. People who don't think so haven't owned both to try it or just believe the hype, prices, myth, hoopla, etc.

Yes, the IIC+ is a great amp but the III, Quad, and even IV can get close. A few guys on the Grailtone forum think the Royal Atlantic gets close to the IIC+ as well, I'll find out later this week.

Yea, I had a red III, was awesome! It and the 4 can get close....then again its like substituting orangejuice for orange koolaid. Both are good, but close isn't exact!
