I have mark 2C+ 2 mark 3c+'s and c++ plus a modded mark 3 c+, I have a mark Iv rev A i have a Mark 5, Jpc and mark 7. Go with the mark 7 and enjoy!

I prefer Marshall over Mesa; so not a Mesa purest.

I wanted something for prog, fusion and more modern that wasn't Marshall flavored.

I considered the Mark VII, but it had more things I wouldn't use compared to the JP-2C that had more of what I'd actually use. Three channels, I use for Clean, Rhythm and Lead; 2 EQs, push/pull for different Gain and Presence, Shred mode,...and I like the smooth liquid/glass texture of the gain which is what I guess other's see as too compressed. The only thing it has that I don't need is the reverb. I have the rackmount version, just a format preference.

I use a Fractal VP4 in 4CM, and have a pair of Mesa compact 2x12 cabs - I also use these cabs with my Diezel VHX, and my ISP Theta Pro or MSX + Engl E850/100.

Cannot listen to that. Overall off putting and non-musical to my ears.
it’s not my cup of tea either so i wouldn’t deem this a demo that woos me🤣
pretty weirdly consistent for official mesa demo videos these days…good thing i know what these amps really sound like.

Wonder if they are trying to push JP2C sales prior to a 10 year anniversary model that is overdue!!

All Marks are "liquid/glass texture" and all Marks are compressed, but some versions are more compressed than others. I couldn't get along with the V because it was so much more compressed and hi-fi vs the IV. But my IV is way more compressed than my Marshalls by a long shot.

Agreed. And my experience is the same.

The mkiv certainly gets compressed and saturated, but not so much that it gets smeared and dynamics all go to hell. Well, i suppose you CAN set it like that, but there are alot of sweespots you can find to make it feel right. It is still easy to find sweet spots where you can still dig in if you want. It also sounds "bigger" than the V.

The MKV was harder for me to find those spots as overall, it is just compressed. It does still sound like a Mark though and I dig how tight it was. More compressed, but it did stay together very well over it's gain range and regardless of tuning.

I never thought I would say this, but I'm starting to enjoy the feeling and thump of Rectifiers more than my Marks. I've been a die-hard Mark loyalist for so long it feels dirty saying this.

How dare you!

Just kidding.
A rrectifier with a ts-9 is a good tone for sure, one of my favs. It's certainly not gonna replace my IV though. Maybe you're just going through a phase??

I am definitely going through a phase. I picked up a Friedman Plex when it launched and played it almost exclusively over the last year+. So I got used to that Marshall sag and dynamics, yada yada. So when I went back and fired up my Mark I was like... yuck. It's just tight static. It's like when you change to a different beer it can really throw you off.

The Recto didn't have that same affect though... it sounded better than I remember. Probably because it has more in common with a Marshall than a Mark.

All good man, it's common to drift back & forth!

Alright wanted to add some VII thoughts now that I've used the combo with both my rock band & the metal band. TLDR, I got EXACTLY the opposite results from what I expected.

To recap I had a VII head a couple years ago, and through my Recto Trad cab I was super unimpressed. Good tone but NO push whatsoever and was way better at low volume than high. I'm starting to wonder if there was something wrong with it.

This combo I picked up is like a normal tube amp, better at high volume. That said it's like the JP in that the volume taper is far more usable than a OG, however, it's also nowhere near as loud. For example on an OG, even a 60W, volume at 2 is super loud in the live band. With this VII as well as the JP I can run 12:00 (about as loud as they get before compressing) on the volume and it's just about right in the band mix. Not overwhelming at all.

So at rock band practice- I expected to like the mid gain voicings of the VII. A couple of them have nice enough push. It was fine, but nothing to kick my other Mesas out of a job. The DR RI is still the top choice for me there.

At metal band practice in MkIV mode, I was expecting the combo to be a joke. Well I don't know WTF, but with the volume throttled it was actually.. almost chugging and cut well. I then tried a setup where I ran it to a 1960 cab forward and also the combo pointed at the drummer for monitoring, and it.. actually chugged AND had killer tightness & clarity. I did not expect that AT ALL. To be clear it wasn't pushing a ton of air like the OG would, but for down tuned guitars it had really nice clarity, tightness & cut with this setup. It really does like the 1960 cab better than the Mesa cab.

So, IDK WTF? :ROFLMAO:  I think I'll gig it next weekend.

this would make a cool intro live with just this dude and Hetfield before the drums and dirty guitars punch in.
