Great band but they are washing up. If you had to put up with Lars for all those years you'd wash up too.

In honesty.....Metallica is where its at for me and my drummer when we play.
They can do no wrong. ;)

I just rewatched the Craig Ferguson show interview today its hilarious and their show at Blizzcon was awesome

Metallica is the greatest rock band on the planet right now. Untouchable.

Popularity wise yes but other metal bands right now blow their doors off and Metallica's success is still from what they did 20-30 years ago. Since the Black album they have sucked ass.
Word. If they came out as a new band putting out that post Black album garbage, they would have been here and gone already, and we wouldn't even be having this discussion. And I don't want to hear this bullshit about them being 50 years old. So are Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, Slayer, Machine Head and countless others that are close in age from the same generation, and every one of those bands would wipe the floor with Metallica's washed up asses.

When load was release I hated it. Now? One of my favorite albums and there is really nothing else similar in to it. Reload was weaker for sure, but the first 3 tracks kick ass IMO.

Load is my fav Metallica album. Maybe that means I'm not a true Metallica fan, but there it is. Their tone lately hasn't been great, though, whatever they're using.

Waste My Hate rocks and both albums load and reload "unpopular" songs are good feel driving songs

Not sure if it was recorded with AxeFx or the usual rigs, but the tone on the Ronnie Rising Medley is ungodly when its cranked. The little break where it starts leading into Kill the King, gets me pumped everytime. Metallica hasn't really put anything out in the last few years that's memorable but they still can bring the live shows and do occasionally do some awesome covers. I do hope that turd of a song Lords of Summer gets lost and never released on an album though. The title is not Metallica....WTF does Lords of Summer mean anyways? Was this a collaboration with One Direction???

Kirk and james' tone has absolutely no balls to it since they switched to the axe fx's. It's a very clear tone but it's more of a rock tone than a heavy metal tone. I thought their tone was good on the "through the never" live album, but after that, nope... it's like they are putting more and more mids in there tone, and less and less gain... But it's not giving them a better mix, it's just making them sound less powerful.

I liked James' live tone best when it was 100% Boogie. Mesa Mark's or Tri-axis into Boogie Power-amp.

I was about to chime in with this. I just watched the film and holy shit that tone was Amazing!!! They played tight as fuck too!!! So awesome.

Op: I thought I read KH was using Fortin a while back, specifically the Meathead?

Edit: I supp I should've finished reading all posts before I commented :) I got excited when I saw mention of through the never.

They use the Axe rigs for all overseas shows and some small, one-off performances.

Kirk has used his signature randall RM100KH and modules since 2007 or so. He always had 2 in his live rig until the big 4 NY show in 2011. After that, the Randall/Fortin came into the picture. The rack mount Dual Rectos were/are still there. The RM100KH replaced the Triaxis portion of his rig while the Recto stayed. The Fortin/Randall replaced the RM100KH and again, the Rectos stayed. The only time he uses the RM100KH now are backstage to warm up on, as mentioned above.

They do have Mark Vs in the studio and have for quite awhile actually. Obviously they have a ton of gear but the boogies always do get some good use.

how do you know these things :)

I know some people, heard some things ;)

I still think teh public needs some green in their lives.

Is Metallica even still relevant ;)

Absolutely not. We still haven't finished discussing the tone on the 1st VH album. ;)

Exactly.

There's never been a greater rock band than Metallica. So much better than today's fucking trash and 1010101 djent crap. But, it's about time to go out - on a high note.

Metallica music after 1991 sucks. Their Axe-fx tone sucks. This sounds good:

Metal sure but rock bands? They're not in my top 10.

Metallica is the new Rolling Stones, a monster legacy act that tours and makes lots of people happy. Not even remotely relevant for new material, when they rarely do so. It is what it is...they are huge and small at the same time depending on how you look at it.

It's funny, if you told me back in the 80's that I'd be enjoying Overkill 50X more than Metallica at some point in my life, I wouldn't have believed it. And yet here I am.
