Did I just read some pro Lars posts?
I haven’t seen that in 30 years

Lars is the man, but not so much for his drumming skills. those are self taught and "feel based", so don't expect precision or complexity. he never claimed to be neil peart, but more like phil rudd or ian pace.

Lars taught the 12 year old me (through interviews, and what not), how to be a music fan on a higher level.
I started tape trading bootlegs and got deep into that whole culture because of him.
I got to checking out all the obscure bands he named dropped from the NWOBHM scene that i would have never otherwise heard of. Followed a few of my favorite bands from city to city for a couple of tour stops (al'a lars with motorhead in 81).
Plus even though he took down napster, i totally see from an artists stand point, why he did it, and even though he took a beating for it at the time, 20 years later, many prominent musicians have come out to say that he was right...which was all know he was/it on that issue whether you like him or not.
"this summer is going too well, i think i want to be the most hated guy in rock n' roll for a while" -lars on napster 1999.

fuck the haters :D

The thing that has kept me a big Metallica fan since the beginning is their diversity. I personally love that every album is different. No matter my rocking mood I can always find a Metallica album that suits it.

Personally not a fan of bands that create album after album that sound the same or think they have to be categorized into a certain genre of music.

I like the 4 Horsemen acoustic. Hetfield's vocals/singing is better now than it has been in forever IMO.

I had an interview with lars from 86 where he talks about what the bands the other band members are into.
He says "Cliff really likes this new American band called R.E.M".
The 15 year old me hearing that was like "NO WAY!!"

Cliff was majorly into blues and exploring music. Those that say Cliff would be rolling in his grave are full of it IMO. If anything they would be even more diverse if Cliff was still alive. Cliff wasn't a metal head overall. He was very diverse musically. Thrash metal was not his complete passion. He loved music in general and exploring different sounds.

I dig Metallica's evolution, but I don't like this track because it's not a good track, nothing to do with preconceived notions of what I think the band should sound like.
For example, IMHO, Load & Reload are two of the bands best sounding and best written albums in their catalog.
I also really liked St. Anger, Death Magnetic and Hardwired. I like that they evolve. I don't want them to be repeatedly playing in the style of RTL, MOP or AJFA. Artists need to breathe and stretch their legs.

Watch out. Some bitter old man still stuck in 1986 will call you a lame ass.

This is intresting they did what they could with a song in that genre

It’s funny so many Hated Lars for his rip on Napster and how free music and streaming would one day ruin the music industry. And guess what 20 years later he
Was right

Also to guys saying Hardwired sucks , I am confused
Some of the riffs on that album sound exactly like they were
Lifted from Ride the Lightning , Kill’em and Master

No but I'll just call you lame, I'm sure it's not the first time
Metallica fans are the worst.

if you guys want to hate on something metallica has done (Besides Lulu), just go find the song they did with Ja Rule in the mid 2000's. :scared:
They did a hip hop calab with one of the shittiest hip hop artists ever!

I haven't heard this yet. But you know, I've always thought of Jump in the fire as a country rock song, coincidentally with distorted guitars. I always imagine people line dancing to that boot-stompin' bass line and people waving their ten gallon hats in the air shouting "YEE-HA!" I don't necessarily hear that as a bad thing. I just find it funny. And I don't necessarily hear the song as a thrash metal song.

So it doesn't surprise me too much that Metallica have tried a country version with other songs from the Kill 'em All album.

So much this! I love the new Metallica stuff so I have no “preconceived notion” as to what they should sound like. This was just not good. Plain and simple. I think they get a bigger pass BECAUSE it’s metallica. If another band did the same version it’d get torn to shreds in a hot second.

Metallica fans “liking” this is like parents telling their kids their bad painting is amazing.

HUGE Metallica fan, but I find this just meh....not awful, but not good either.

I’ve been on the Metallica bandwagon since 83 and have heard people say they sold out ever since Fade to Black.

I get it, when they do something new/ different, all the sudden they aren’t what YOU think they should be any more.

One of the things I’ve always liked about them is their willingness to do whatever they feel inspired to do.

I was a hard core thrash guy in the eighties. If it wasn’t thrash, it sucked in my opinion. Because of that, I actually missed out on some pretty cool music that I have long since discovered and appreciate.

I no longer think there is good music and bad music....just music that moves you or doesn’t. And I don’t expect everyone...or anyone for that matter... to be moved by the same stuff I dig.

Rock on dudes

This is my biggest thing. I am 37, and I was not old enough to be around for Metallicas first few albums. When the Black Album came out, I though it was a fucking masterpiece and so awesome to hear. I would go to the local arcade or hang out with older teens at the time, and they were always saying "METALLICA FUCKIN SOLD OUT MAN!!" Well how was I to know, or even know what sold out means?

I kind of think those guys grew up and just never changed their way of thinking.

They just need to change their name...Metallica is way too heavy for them. If Black Sabbath put out garbage like this you couldn't call them Black Sabbath. They were heavy till the end, Slayer and countless others. Maybe Metallica has a following who are sellouts and that's the connection haha

this dude above me here thinks he wrote the fucking heavy metal rule book

I don't need a book to remember the one thing you forgot is being heavy son.
