Metallica.

I don't have any of their newer albums (post AJFA) except for Death Magnetic, but I have to give them credit for trying new things. I'm 34 and I sure as fuck don't want to limit myself to playing the same shit that I did when I was 20 every single day without changing, so I can hardly hold it against them.

What I can hold against them is brickwalling their fucking music.

As for Megadeth... when I was growing up the only two Megadeth fans in my class were both cunts, so I never got into their music because I associated Megadeth with these dude's shitty personalities. I only started listening to them recently after getting the Big 4 concert video and I'll be honest and say that I've skipped most of their songs. The problem is that one of those kids I grew up with was blond and dressed like Dave, so whenever I see Dave I'm reminded of this stupid cunt from high school and it turns me off. It's a shallow excuse, but it is what it is...

Metallica pre-black album. It's fine to experiment as long as it doesn't suck donkey balls

Easily Megadeth. Was a fan of both bands since childhood, but I totally lost interest in Metallica a long time ago. Their material just didn't have that same longevity as Megadeth material has for me....I listen to Metallica occasionally maybe a few times a year, but Megadeth is always on my MP3 player's shuffle list. That says it all. I love Dave's riffs, he has amazing rhythm and he's created some super complex riffs that keep the ballsy, evil rocking edge without turning to jerk-off "prog metal". Plus try to sing on top of those riffs, man...Agreed Dave's voice does suffer when he plays live, but still it's tight and awesome.

One of the best bands I ever saw live was Megadeth on the So Far So Good So What tour. Mind blowing.

But if I had to chose, which of course I don't, Metallica. Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets.

Both bands rule.

Can't stand Mustaine's voice.... Seriously can't tolerate it. Does he look like he's always taking a shit? Oddly enough it sounds like he's always taking a shit; kinda like he's singing while sitting on the john trying to bump a lumpy, you know??

Ya, Mustaine just sounds horrible, so due to this and also, due to the fact that Metallica truly does have some killer, killer music to their name, Metallica all the way. Ride the Lightning is still one of my all time faves....

The 5-10 year wait for new Metallica material has kind of killed the momentum for me...as well as all those Unforgivens and the entire 90s catalog...and the Lou Reed experiment....Mustaine's voice sucks, but somehow he makes it work...and his rhythms are excellent and lead guitar is always smack you in the face awesome

New megadeth is definitely more awesome, but overall Metallica is my personal pick

Megadeth by a mile. and ill give the only reason...RUST IN PEACE. best thrash album ever. Marty's solos are simply perfect, the riffs and song arrangements are mind blowing, and yea...thats all i gotta say. Dave and Co. have put out a dud or two (Risk wasnt a super great album...ok, but definitely not my fave) but Metallica just cant do it anymore IMO. Load and Reload were huge disappointments IMO, especially after James gave Dave hell about Mechanix, while Metallica had the epic "Fuel". difference is, Dave wrote that as a teenager (and James liked the music enough to make it into the Four Horsemen...lol), while Fuel was written when Metallica was middle aged. pot, meet kettle!

and after St. Anger...yea, no. i mean, Frantic. Seriously? horrible. im all for branching out and trying new things, but at least dont make it suck. and i havent really heard Death Magnetic...just couldnt really be bothered. still, the older Metallica stuff is great. Ride the Lightning is one of my favorites of all time.

but Dave just has the rhythm chops man...complex, musical, and he can "sing" over it. he still has the fire, while it feels like Metallica have lost it. and Kirks wah REALLY gets annoying. really annoying...

I don't fault Metallica for changing as they got older, but after AJFA I don't really like anything, not even the black album. They ceased to exist as a thrash band after 1988, whereas Medadeth is still thrashing with the best of them

I concur. I stopped going to see them and stopped listening after the black album came out. Was never much of a Megadeth fan but respected them for staying thrashy at least.
Which is worse, Metallica doing an album with Lou Reed, or Mustaine fraternizing with that bloated windbag Alex Jones?

Endgame - HEADcrusher and 20th Anniversary RUST tour were FUCKING KILLER.

It may not be a popular opinion here but wtf.

I don't like the hardcore thrash. I like stripper metal, blues, rock with a hard edge. I got into Metallica listening to songs like Sanitarium, ride the lightning, seek and destroy, then the black album came out and brought the heavy shit to rock. Some say they sold out, I liked that album. After that they drifted. St. Anger was a disc I threw out the car window, fucking hated it. Death magnetic is cool, broken beat and scarred is great and kills live. Metallica still fills huge Phillips arena here, and there are plenty of young kids coming in to the metal family. They are more than just a band.

Megadeth is ok. I respect the work and longevity, maybe 2 songs on my iPhone. Dave seems like a pretty cool guy, he seems to be dedicated to metal music for the next generatin. Because of what he stands for, I like the music a little more. He does have a grating voice.

Musically I like Megadeth more but Pantera would've blown them both away.

Megadeth because they're STILL pumping out awesome albums

That is the popular opinion everywhere except on the internet.

Metallica .... Master and earlier.

Rust in Peace is interesting ....

I always felt sorry for Mustane. Watching Metallica soar must have been painful. Every song and album he wrote gives me the impression that it was written to be some sort of epic/anthem that never was. They have always been 2nd/3rd bill stadium filler. The overuse of that harmonizer/pitch shifter is really annoying to me.
