Metallica vs Megadeth

Even though my vote goes to Megadeth, you should have included Alcatrazz.

Watching Metallica soar must have been painful.

They may have soared in teenage $$$, but they f'n suck beyond suckadge can be described in 1000 words or less.

Its popular on guitar forums to bash Metallica and especially Kirk But where would metal/ rock be without Metallica ? Maybe some guys here aren't old enough to have seen Metallica rise up in the 80's and only know past ten yrs Metallica . Now i like megadeth also, countdown to extinction is a hard album for anyone of that type to top but their lineup changed a lot more then metallica's did and dave is hardly as loyal with his bandmates as James and co are, not to mention consistency wasn't there with megadeth albums. I saw Metallica live this summer and they nailed it, it was the first time I had seen them since mid 90's and it was cool to see them kill it.

All very good songs(some legendary)

I love some early Metallica just like anyone else, but who the fuck wants to write and perform the same type of shit their whole life!! If you are an honest artist you will try to stretch out & write in different styles.
By doing this, some things will be hit or miss, but that is part of an honest journey as an artist or band.
FUCK what fans think. You will loose some & gain some, but it shouldn't be about the fans anyway.

The people that sell out and are fake(or just have really low IQ's) are those that claim they can listen to, or perform & write the same style of shit over & over. Bands who do this are just "phoning it in" or are just not talented or brave enough to change.

As for Megadeth, I love a bunch of their tunes and Dave's voice sounds great on record. He is an amazing rhythm player and has written some iconic metal riffs & songs

Metallica's early stuff from Kill Em All to Justice. Megadeth Peace Sells to Cryptic Writings. I think Megadeths recent endeavors are much better than any of the latter Metallica stuff, but I have to say Metallica as a whole just for the first three albums alone especialy MoP.

Alot of people point the finger at Metallica for 'selling out', whatever the hell that even means nowdays, because they became a rock band instead of a thrash band. Despite that, it doesn't matter a jot, because NONE of the big 4 thrash bands have released a good album past 1990 anyway, except Slayer's 'Undisputed Attitude' LP, but that's a cover record of a bunch of old punk songs. It's still great though, and better than any of the 90's/00's material from any of those bands.

Apparently it's more credible to be like Slayer and try and re-write Reign In Blood over and over again instead of branching out and evolving as a band.

If you want a band to continue to sound the same, then they might as well just split up, and you can listen to the 3 or 4 good albums they released in that time. There's nothing wrong with evolving musically. Metallica matured, and their music did too. Alot of people still liked it. Just not the same folk who liked the thrash stuff.

That was 2 decades ago, not "nowadays". Selling out is alienating your real fan base in an attempt to gain mainstream fans, which only lasts for so long. When you're not trendy to listen to they're done with you, and the fans you've alienated hate what you've become and they turn on you like you've turned on them.

BS. Countdown To Extinction, Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings were all good albums. Endgame was a good album.

Did Metallica evolve? I thought evolution had to do with making progress and developing. Most people look at it more like them taking a step backwards as opposed to evolving. The riffs went backward, lyrics went to shit, vocals sound like shit, and everything basically slowed down and simplified.

As If a band has to stick to some Thrash formula because they started out mostly like that.

Every honest musician grows & is influenced by other things. These influences & growth should get reflected in their writing even if it pisses of some fans!! Fans should be the last thing a band thinks about when writing a record. If an artist writes from the heart & it pisses off some fans then fuck 'em. Most fans have as much talent as fucking burger flippers, and have no idea what growth as an artist means.

To allow oneself to be boxed into some particular style of music just because it's what got you popular, although it may not interest you anymore as an artist to write in that particular style, is totally lame.

Megadeth was probably more consistent throughout the years, but never really did it for me. 80's Metallica was great, no question, 90's was ehhh, 2000's was awful (putting it politely).

I went with Metallica just because of their first 4 albums. Peace Sells and Rust in Piece were the closest I could come to liking Megadeth.
