Well now that this is settled, where is the EVH knob on my Peacemaker? I can't find it.

Thank you. :)

I'm not talking as a player. I'm talking THD.

OK, then why would someone spend more $$$ on a THD, assuming their level of proficiency, then say a pignose, if tone is in the fingers? Just saying THD's have a sound, feel and character or am I incorrect??? I know I'm right because I've played them, w/ you at NAMM and at Tone Merchants and own some THD products (Hot Plates) for that reason.

It seems to me the argument takes one in the direction of NOT needing to bother w/ THD or any given company because the gear won't make a difference, you'll sound the same no matter what gear you're using. Which leaves feel, response... I've played amps that feel great for shredding as an example and I wouldn't argue that the tone was any good, nor did I sound like I do when I use my rig, so clearly the gear makes a difference in the resulting tone, to my view point.
I already answered this.
Goback and re-read what I said about THD amps, the player gear feedback loop and the response of gear.

Looks to me like double talk. The gear matters, but the gear doesn't matter  The tone is not in the gear, but "gear feedback loop and the response of gear" is, but that is all irrelevant because tone is in the fingers. Tone isn't in the result of the interactions of the player, circuitry, speakers, pedals, outboard gear, signal chain routing, barometric pressure on a given day etc...

The gear MATTERS DAMN IT... hehehe So does the players' proficiency on his instrument, and so does his proficiency with dialing in his gear. It ALL matters.

Philosophical differences aside, I find the gear to make a HUGE difference in several areas (Tone included), if you don't then cool for you.

I can't believe you guys are still at this.

Everyone on both sides of the equation is saying the same things over and over and no one is ever going to convince the other side they are wrong. I made my point far earlier in the thread, I'm done saying the same thing over and over... Time to move on for me...

Have fun, fellers!

BTW, Ed - I hope our disagreement here last night is not being taken too personally by you. You are a great guy and I certainly haven't taken your comments personally - all in the heat of the discussion I say...

Steve
Steve, this is abot the only place where I don't take thins personally. It's when I discuss shit o TGP when folks get bent outta shape and call m boss complaining where I take shit VERY personally. We're good.

Guys from TGP have called Andy?!?!?!?

Wow..................

Then do one note or chord....seems like that would be an easy way to prove it one way or the other......
That assumes your buddy striked the string with the same pick at the same angle at the same spot with the same force and has the exact same amount of body mass to absorb vibrations.
are you trying to say that my rather large, absolutely sexified man boobs affect the tone Ed ?
;)
No, but the mass of your arms does.

No double talk at all. I clearly defined that gear matters. But in my case not for the sound, go back and re-read my post about it. My take on it is spelled out very clearly.

I get it... For me, it matters for those reasons too, but I also say that (for me) it matters for the sound too. If I am after a Fender Super Reverb sound w/ 4 10's, I use a Fender Super Reverb w/ 4 10's, If I am after the same amp tone but with 12's for a different shade/flavor then I use 12's, Mesa MKIII, Vox AC30, etc... etc... BECAUSE they DO have a core sound/sonic signature.

I am glad that we agree: The gear matters. The fact that we agree on that for different reasons, is inconsequential.

Wow..................
Numerous times.
My fave 2 examples...
One was a discussion about Jimmy Herring, and some dude arguing with me what Jimmy used on a specific album. Which I had a conversation with Jimmy about, since at the time he was the Guytron poster boy and it was as expected an old Fender and Marshall. So, the dude gets all worked up because I "claim" Jimmy didn't use his favorite. Coming at m with shit like I must have misunderstood something, blah, blah, blah. He then calls Guytron screaming about the conduct about the THD asshole o tha thread, Guytron calls my boss, Andy has to go through the thread with Guy going "well, Ed didn't say anything I have an issue with with. End result, I'm barred from saying anything about Guytron.

Case 2...
I always dug Two Rock, i some thread I said something about clonin, some 2 Rock customers gets way bend out of shape, calls Two Rock, Bill calls Andy, Andy gets to spent the aternoon reading through a 10+ page thread same end result. Ed didn't say anything wrong. Two Rock losta guy speaking highly of their amps tat day.

Suhr, Mitch from Marshall, etc, etc, been through this over and over...
The only good hing is that Andy knows I AM very opiniated and don't foget when you cut me, so as far as bosses go he gives me a lot of latitude. That said I do have better things to do then to worry about whether I offended yet another player because they didn't like my opinion an can't sperate me as a person from me the THD guy.

Funnily enough the running joke around here is... "Andy, you're phone is gonna ring of the hook today"..."why, who's Wheaties did you piss in this time?"

Not sure what that was supposed to prove, other than it isn't the best sounding or best performance I've heard from you. What was your point??? Was that a modeler? It sounded like it to me. It surely didn't sound like some of your THD clips.
It's me switching between a Bassman and a Soldano...

Barred from talking Guytron!!!!!!!!!!

WOW... some people are just in need of a personality mod... Sorry to hear that kind of crap has happened. I respect you and am glad that you are willing to share your experience, POV and expertise with others, and think you're a cool guy a on top of it all. I think just because we have a differing view on something like this topic, is no reason not to be cool to people. IF I have come across as uncool, it wasn't intended.

Peace Brother Ed. The intensity of the conversation not withstanding, I think you're a good guy.

As I said to Steve, it's all good I love arguing about gear. And every once in a while-although not often-my POV is actually changed by a good argument.
We're ood.
It's guys that call me cunt that go on my fuck off list.

Two different guys thru the same rig = different technique and possibly different tone, unless they are "like" players...
One guy thru two different amps = DIFFERENT TONE (same technique)

Some truth to both sides... But "tone" is not all in the fingers. Otherwise why would we all be waiting to hear the new VHT Sig X ... or the new Cameron or why would Wizard amps be my fav tone so far that I've experience??? If tones in my fingers I should be able to get that wizard "tone" thru anything??!! right?? ...maybe my stereo?
WHY THE HECK WOULD A MODDED CAMERON AMP GO FOR SO MUCH ON EBAY IF TONE'S IN THE FINGERS?
Why do Ford and Carlton spend HUGE $$$ on Dumbles?
C'mon... this is crazy.
