I haven't tried one but when I was shopping stage-vocal mics it was stated in reviews that it is a brighter, more cutting mic than something smoother like a Beta 58 which I been using for about a dozen years now.

I wouldn't say brighter than SM57 either. Mine isn't. It's more mid-focused than the SM57 even, IME.
I suppose it's a good live mic. But I didn't find any use for it, personally.

I did this a while back, hopefully it helps. We ended up blending the 609 & the SM7b for our album tone.
I do like the Fredman technique as well. IMO it's the way to go with 57s.

Bringing this one back from the dead.. I have a bunch of 57's already which I use between my drum kit and my guitar cab. I've recently set up a cab closet and I want to mic diff speakers with a bunch of mics. What ELSE besides a 57 is killer on a cab? Maybe the Heil stuff? (PR 40) These are my additional mics at the moment:
SM7B ( would probably need a cloudlifter)
Cascade Fat Head II ( usually pair with 57, poor man's ribbon)
Senheiser E906
An old 421
What would round things out nicely? I like the M 160 in a lot of the IR blends I play with, but 1200$ for that thing? Yikes. Maybe I stick to the IR version

A Cardioid might give you Comb Filtering in a tight space especially if the source is really loud..

It's a closet inside my studio room which is already built for sound so I'm cranking the amps. MV on 6 for my JCM800. I guess it will be fine then.
