Too many people dig the Kemper to write it off; it's not a coincidence.

There is a rather strange thing that happens with some that buy a high end modeler (or profiler, for the sensitive), IMO YMMV JMT AFAIC AYSOS. Sure, there are the same folks with other gear, but there is something different about modelers. Well, I guess that has been traditionally limited to the AxeFX, but the KPA seems to have a similar following.Shiny_Surface":3eq131hp said:There seems to be a similar tenacity to Kemper detractors as Axe-Fx owners are to theirs. Hitler had quite a following too....
But yes, I have been listening close to the Kemper vids and they seem quite good. Given this is version 1, when they take market feedback and tweak it, it may replace all of my amps except a few old favorites. But I would model them anyway. Would not take them out.
And get to the bottom line... The thing is cheap. 2K...? WTF is 2K compared to what most own in amps anyway. It would be another tool in the box. Maybe the crescent wrench of amps.

Just model the preamp at the different settings you like, plug the output into the loop in, and instant multi channels on your single channel amp.
The main thing with me is, being a vocalist/guitarist, I actually don't like going direct onstage. I like my vocals isolated and screaming at me from my floor monitor and my guitar kicking the legs out from behind me from an amp. So it may not be a good live choice for me but in the studio...that's awesome.

Man, that's awesome. Thanks for the info!stratotone":4z5fh2mg said:Yep, you can model the fx send on your amp or just a preamp on rackmount gear. Then you can turn off the cab/mic emulation or add another one from a different amp to it.
I ran mine at first with a guitar amp and cab behind me onstage, with a output from the kemper going to the fx return/poweramp in. Cab wasn't miked, I had the direct outs from the Kemper going to front of house. So I got the guitar amp sound/feel behind me I was used to. Also, if I tweaked my onstage volume, what I sent to the mixing board wasn't affected. Sound guys LOVE this.

Admittedly, I have yet to play one, but with any piece of new gear, there's a bunch of hoopla and then it dies down or the next piece of tech comes out and renders the "kemper" or whatever its called, not so good. The Axe II was supposed to be "the bees knees" and now I hear people saying how while its great for the FX, the amp models suck. However, when the Axe FX cam out, it was praised as the best amp modeler ever!
Please enlighten me....how is it (in any way) possible for you to know something loses "that tube feel", by listening to demos?....Really?![]()

I'm here to absolutely assure you that I coulda make an Axe Standard feel better than the vast majority of tube amps out there...and I'm fairly certain I've owned enough to comment...
I've never tried a Kemper, but I'd bet every dollar I've ever earned, that you're wrong.![]()
I've listened to a few in-depth demos of the Kemper, comparing it back to back with the amps and speakers it's profiling. When there is a switch from the real amp to the Kemper, I can hear the switch. I don't know the word for the sound I'm hearing, but I can tell which is the amp and which is the kemper in just about every demo I see. The Kemper somehow, sounds like it has less life than the real amp, and I related that to feel. If there were no discernible difference between the two, or just a fractional difference between the two, I wouldn't care. But when I can hear a difference it makes me wonder why I'm the only one who can hear it. If it truly copied an analog amp to a digital format, there should be no discernible difference between the real and copied tone.
-Maybe I'm totally wrong here, but this is what my ears hear. And again, having not played or heard one in person, all I have to go from are the demo's I've seen.
- Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seemed to recall reading that the guys @ tone merchants only recommend using the Axe FX for its effects and not for its amp models. I've heard other people saying that while good, the models leave something to be desired. Again, I haven't played one.
...an no, not a troll.
I still stand by my comment. If your ears are somehow better than the world renowned engineers listed above, I thank god I don't have your hearing... The KPA is so good, it does not need defending, especially against you and your comments. I say again, whatever makes you sleep well at night....

It's a little silly to say that there is no difference, of course it is. It's a good unit but doesn't sound better than axe effects or others like it. Remember this is an industry, people don't advertise these products for free do they? It's quite easy to hear a difference. I think the sound from the Kemper looses some of that treble or HiFi quality/richness (the tube sound?) I own an 11R so its not like I never use modelers myself. I my current recording project I find that it has a useful purpose for adding a bit here and there, but why would professional musicians with loads of amps and knowhow use a modeler instead of the real thing, that is something I don't understand. Most people has "their sound", an amp and some effects. My 11R has fewer amp models than most units, but I never use any other than ones based on the JCM 800.
