Missing my 5150III. What's the most home-friendly solution?

So I left my good old 5150III back at home before I moved. I'm missing it greatly. I loved the tone of that thing.

Wondering what would be a good low-volume solution that's not going to be expensive? I know the 50W handles low volume beautifully, but I also don't want to spend the full price of a 50W when I don't really need the volume, or want the added bulkiness and weight.

I've already owned the LBX 1 and 2. I liked the 1, but thought the 2 sounded awful turned down. Plus I much prefer the red channel over the blue.

Will the LBX-S satisfy me? Is there anything else I should look into? Is someone building like a preamp clone? I know lots of Peavey 5150-inspired preamps, but I don't think I can think of many Fender EVH ones.

Thanks!

I don’t know if you ever mess around with digital or home recording stuff, but I thought the Neural Gojira plugin was absolutely fantastic to play with.

I don’t do any recording, but I do have an interface and monitors, and that’s all I need to use those Archetype plugins, since they are stand alone and will open without the need of a DAW. The Gojira plug-ins are based off the EVH gear and I just love playing through them. For “that” sound at home at any reasonable volume, I have yet to find anything else at a better option.

Maybe an Axe FX3 would be better, but I’ve never played one. But obviously the price of the Axe vs. a license for the Neural is quite a bit different. So that alone makes the Neural stuff an extremely good value in my mind for the quality of sound you get, for the very reasonable price.

Gonna look into those, thanks!

Do you like them better than the ML Fluff plugin? I remember not really liking that one, but I really didn't spend much time with it. As soon as I noticed the controls did not behave at all like the real amp, I just got turned off.

I've only tried a few of the ML plugins, but the ones I did try, I felt the Neural stuff sounded much better. The John Petrucci Neural plugin was also great sounding.

The thing I found with the Gojira plugin was I liked keeping the gain way down, and I thought it gave me a fantastic tight, almost booted 800 type sound. That is with the gain only at 9:00. Then I had another preset where the gain was at 10:00 - 10:30, and it was just perfect next step for that extra bit of saturation and gain.

If you have all the extra hardware already (interface and monitors), give them a try. You can try them for 30 days for free, so its definitely worth the time to take a look.

Just go back home and grab your 5150III. IMHO, if you have something you like you'll never be able to replicate it.

How about a 5150-III pedal into a cab emulation pedal then monitors?

Yamaha THR30II.
I Use that one in my living room and the jent preset is just cray good. Reminds me of my 5153 also. Super tight and aggressive. Perfect.

I sold my EVH after getting Neural DSP Gojira. I liked the amp but I just found that Gojira did everything I wanted from it. The Fractal emulation is also bang on, and even Audio Assault's version sounds pretty great (and costs like $2 on sale). Youll just want to use good IR's.

I also had an LBX mark 1 for a while. Sold it pretty quick, it just has that small power section vibe going on that made me want the bigboi version. The 50W are a pretty good compromise but if you want convenience and volume, the digital stuff has it nailed

Have you considered a good attenuator, like the Tone King Ironman II, so you can get good tone at low volume from any amp?

I’ve got 5150 III for sale in the classified. Nothing like the real thing
