I had the same problem, then I read here somewhere that the TREBLE is the key - you need to crank it up to at least 2:30-3:00. it's a little tricky to dial in so that A channel doesn't sound too bright, but I was able to do it (although I can't remember if I have the BRIGHT switch at "0" or "1" . . . I'd have to look, but I think it's a "0"). If I remember correctly, the more the GAIN is turned up on channel B the darker and even muddier it gets and thus the TREBLE may need to be turned up even more.
Before discovering this I had also changed the BRIGHT caps for channel A so that it's not as bright, but this only works for positions "1" and "2", not position "0". For this module I think it's a good mod on its own anyway and I've left it in.
