Modern Amps that sound like ASS

Bogner Ubershall.....Mesa Rectifiers.....Peavey Valvekings.....Marshall TSL.....I'm sure there are more

I am really not a fan of Mesa distortion on the Rectifier series. Like 10 years ago I thought it was cool but that was when I was more n00bish. I cannot stand Mesa modern distortion.

I like my VHT. I haven't played any others besides the SigX though.

The Marshall TSL is a pretty shitty sounding amp to me.

For me it was the single recto and Orange Rockerverb.

And while I wouldn't say they sound like "ass", I still don't understand all the hype of Splawn. I briefly owned a Pro Mod and a Competition and didn't like either one of them. The mid shape really blows IMO.

I am not a fan of it either but there are 2 players that I have seen use them live and loud who sounded pretty good. It was Dr.Know of the Bad Brains and Fletcher Dragge of Pennywise, They both sounded pretty damn good. But I've never been able to make one sound like that, maybe theres are modded.

Here's the show I saw of the Bad Brains, the tone isnt bad.

Funny no one mentioned B00gera. I spent less than 2 minutes with one. What a piece of shit. I spent 30 min with the JVM and I think it's a piece of shit too. 4 channels my ass.

BLASPHEMY!  Which one? My old K100 was the perfect marriage of Fender/Marshall. My TBR5 can put me through a wall Marty McFly style. Maybe you were playing an M60 or something older.

That's so funny ! Good job replying to this question with not only a reply but a visual too .. .

ON a sidenote, I'm surprised there aren't more people removing the "G " From their Bogner cabs ... I think BONER looks pretty good as a logo!

Heres the question, which modern amp (ie manufactured in the last 10 years or so), actually sounds like complete ass?

The AT-100 I played sounded really good.

I've yet to play a Rivera I like that much, honestly. My superchamp is Rivera-era and I do like it a lot tho. I'm sure they can be dialed in to sound good, but I haven't played or heard one that really did a lot for me. Most recently played a friend's k-tre 1/2 stack and just wasn't my thing.

I'll admit I'm less than impressed with the K-Tre. It's more of a "modern" sounding head. It was in the running for a bit when I was still deciding between head/rack. I don't think I like E34L's. You really have to work to get rid of that scooped sound with the Tre. I mean you have to figure this was based around Mick Thompson's specs. I fucking HATE that guys tone. The older Knuckleheads are hands down some of the best amps I've played.

I find rivera's have kind of a fatiguing high-mid voicing and it was emphasized with the k-tre, imo. Definitely a modern-sounding amp. I'm sure it works well for some things, tho. Same guy had a jmp that was totally plug and play for me, lol.

I don't really think any modern amps sound like ass....though i am not particularly fond of the voicing of Diezels.

I know that is blasphemy in some circles, but I just don't care for them (haven't played an Einsten though)

      Well looks like we agree to disagree here. I could only get 2 of the channels on the JVM dialed in. I'm so glad I decided to go rack. I think I would have been disappointed in some way with a head no matter what. Best of all worlds now.

To clarify, I mean a 70s JMP head, not the jvm or jmp preamp.

Whoops glanced over your post obviously. Wrong consonants.  Agree with you on the JMP.
