If anyone here has a liget bitch about the AFD100 and can have an intelligent conversation with Santiago I'd love to read it.

How can you bitch about something that nobody's played yet?

come on, it is not about that... problem is that there is so much misinformation out there that people keeps repeating it, believing it and finally making a fact out of it.

I dig all things Marshall....up to about 1983 - Superleads, JMP's, JCM's and own them all.

With all the foreplay surrounding the AFD, Slash's present popularity, I was really let down that it was basically a current production DSL100 with a twist or two. A lot of people, myself included, were expecting Marshall to bring back something handwired, with higher grade components and replicate the AFD tone with fairly accurate reissues. The production models may sound good, even close to accurate, but I think Marshall dropped the ball here and missed a golden opportunity to hit a home run.

Its just my preference and opinion and if I needed an AFD amp, I have a 78 Superlead for Dave or Caswell to mod to SIR specs.
So no need for the troops to get all twisted.

Welcome back to the board....

Steve

I understand what you mean and respect your opinion, Steve. I have to disagree though that the AFD is a DSL100 with a twist or two as they are completely different amps, and, although they cold look the same inside, a closer look will reveal that they are built in totally different ways.

We never wanted to make a replica of the original amp (not even Slash wanted that) this was made clear from the very begining and the intention never was to have a SIR modded Marshall made by Marshall... We met Slash several months ago and he told us his preferences and what he wanted, being the basic tone based on the AFD amp and then some added features.

Hey Santiall does Slash's new amp sound similar to this???

And is the "power scaling" an attenuator or rheostat? How does it work?

As much as i go for hand wired amps, i commend Slash for trying to keep his new amp affordable.

I prefer not commenting over youtube videos as there are so many variables there but since you are playing GnR and Dokken, then yes, we are talking about the same overall tone. Are you using EL34s and greenbacks?

The adjustable power works modifying the screen voltage together with the bias and several other parameters so you can crank the power amp section at different output power levels. It doesn't work by wasting power in a resistor like conventional attenuators.

All the amp there reflects what Slash wanted, he has been actively involved from the very begining.

That power feature sounds fascinating....yes that's a 78' 2203 with EL-34's thru G12M 25 watt Blackbacks, i want to apoligize for earlier comments about the AFD amp, sometimes i let my mouth overload my ass, i'm sure it will be a smashing success, peace, Dan.

That's cool bro and I understand. Congratulations on the product line hitting the streets soon. Looks like a small team did a lot and accomplished it well.

The AFD100 will be released with 6550s and Slash plays it through V30s, but with that combination you played it will be quite close to what you have.
Dan, no need for apologies, really, but I appreciate your comments.

Thank you Steve. It was definitely a challenge to design and have the amp ready for production in such short time and of course extremely rewarding that Slash is very pleased with the results.
Hope you like the amp once it is released even it may not suit your personal preferences about construction, etc

Thanks Santiago, Slash has always stood for good tone, i would have no problem with any of his products, thanks for all the hard work.

I will be in Boston for Slashs gig and will report back as to the sound and feel of the new amp as I will get a close look with Chet. I am pretty sure it will sound great.

Hi, without going into personal disqualifications, the answer is very easy, as the AFD amp and the #34 Slash's fav are 90% the same amp It simply needs to switch a gain stage and a couple of other things and there you are, quite simple and effective. In fact I can 100% assure you that the AFD100 in #34 mode is the same amp as Slash has been playing.

The AFD100 never pretended to be a replica of the original amp, just an amp that has that tone and for those purposes we have had Slash working with us. If we had made a "true" replica it would have retailed form much more than it is now and one of the objectives was to make this amp affordable, but that doesn't mean cheap parts, or made overseas. It is made in the UK and all the parts are the same as we would be using in handwired amps.

There is nothing digital in the signal chain either, no 1s or 0s touching the signal, the only 1s an 0s are for the autobiasing and the footswitch.

The transformers are the SAME as in the JCM800, just horizontally mounted instead of vertical.

Yep, you guys mentioned months ago that the final product was different from Slash's original amp... but then I just got one question, why did you call it AFD100?!?
And to be honest, this amp sounds different from Slash's amp to my ears, though. For a long time there were great expectations on the final result of this project. I'm a bit disappointed to say the truth, but it's just my opinion.
