Motor City Pickups Afwayu

I know that I am late to the Afwayu, but thought I would share my two cents... I finally broke down and ordered this pickup. It took five months to get it... I'll leave it at that... With that out of the way, this pickup is VERY nice. It hits the amp without feeling overkill. The lows are big, but still firm. The highs have teeth without grating on the ears. It definitely loves the chugs. Solos have a nice cut to them. I can see why Cantrell like this thing. Below are a clip I made at the house and then one with my Bush tribute band's last show.

Very good pickup. I've had a few from MCP. Solution, Hell Baby (which was discontinued like 15 years ago), some random custom pickup he made, and a SHIT TON of Nukes haha. They were all great. The Hell Baby was my favorite pickup for a while, and I bought up a ton of used ones when I could. I had like 6 at one point, some just on a shelf for the future haha. Eventually, I moved on, but kinda wish I still had one. The Afwayu is bigger and ballsier than the HB was. The Solution is one of the tightest passives I've played. REALLY great pickup with a ton of output. The Nuke was just amazing. I still have one that I bought maybe 10 years ago for my custom V. It's not in there now, but I will keep it around. I have a Guitarmory Ares in that guitar, now.

At one point, another forumite and I tried to buy a bunch of pickups from him. We wanted to order 10 Nukes and divide them between us. He reached out about it, and never heard anything back. Wade is the absolute WORST when it comes to communication. I have never not received a pickup that I ordered, with wait times ranging 3-5 months. But if you want to talk to him, just forget about it haha. If you're OK with total silence and your pickup basically showing up when it shows up, then definitely, great pickups.

I've heard some mixed things about his quality control, sending out squealing pickups and not addressing it. I haven't ordered anything from him in a few years, so second hand knowledge there.

Just some things to be aware of if you order from him.

Yeah, you just gotta order and forget about it, unfortunately lol. It will show up eventually. I also wouldn't be surprised if he prioritizes guys like Cantrells pickups over regular customers. But I don't know if that's the case.

This is my favorite pick up and I have a few of them. It feels like a JB with tighter lows and singing highs without being ear piercing. It is fairly high output, but not so much that it can't clean up. An overall great pick up!

Until I found Tone Nerd, and vintage Shaw Dirty Fingers. DFs are astronomical now $$ and Scott isn't winding anymore

If I needed a new pickup I'd order one no doubt. But, I have like 20 sitting around not getting used atm. Including those 2 I mentioned. Gonna hang onto them though.

Raf. Is the solution so tight that it loses the Chunk when doing chugs? I mainly play in D standard & Drop C so i don't want to lose the weight of the bottom end when doing chugs.

I've Considered using a Solution with A5 Magnet.

I liked it a lot. But I do prefer ceramic magnets because the compression in the low end usually sits the way I like.

I have a 2nd Degree Blackbelt I got here on the forum years ago and love it but currently don't have a guitar to put it in. One of these days I'll get it in something. I always wanted an Afwayu but know the 2nd Degree Blackbelt has that same DNA at a lower gain.
