Movies that sucked...

Just watched the latest Fear Street : Prom Queen on Netflix. Skip it. Thought the initial trilogy was entertaining, well executed and had great kills.
Prom Queen was incredibly by the numbers, had no decent twists and turns and reeked of coming from a short story. Doesn’t shy from the gore but it’s so dull, you don’t care after a while.

Here is one that was difficult for me to categorize as Sucked vs Not Sucked

Spaceman

Movie based off a novel evidently about a guy who travels a great distance to check out a weird 'space cloud'. More like a Nebula. 6 months there / 6 months back. That part is of course made up as there is no such Nebula that close to us. But that's not the point. I will put the rest in as a Spoiler Alert, but safe to say I simply feel this movie lost out on a great potential. It DOES star Adam Sandler in a non comedic role. So far as to say maybe a depressing role. He does play it well and I give him mad props for his acting. The movie plot and theme does tell a great story, so if you are in a somber mood and want to get philosophical for 1.5 hours I'd say it is worth watching Adam and the storyline.

Otherwise, it was very slow and sometimes boring.

So he is a famous astronaut in the Check Republic. He has been on long trips to space before. Unfortunately, he has to leave his wife each time and this is starting to wear on their relationship. So this time he goes up to check out this space cloud/formation that is 6 months away. The 'cloud' is actually the beginning of the universe and looks similar to the Nebula that the Hubble telescope discovered. But on his way, he get somewhat sick and depleted from lack of exercise, mental stimulation, poor diet, lack of gravity, etc. He starts to fall apart. He also starts hallucinating. They probably should have dove into this aspect more but maybe they left it vague on purpose. Didn't read the book. I don't like books. I don't have the patience  Anyway, his one connection to Earth is this two way radio/video that works in real-time so you have suspend disbelief a bit on that. His main request is to talk to his wife. But she doesn't want to talk to him because she can't take him being gone any longer. She has a video communications 'pod' thing at home that she can sit in and pre-record a video message to send to him. All of these pod communications are monitored so when she sends him her last message that she wants a divorce, their government/space program suppresses it because they need their astronaut (Adam Sandler) to remain positive. They are already worried about his health. Now ENTER the alien spider. This is a very large, almost human sized, spider. Similar to a 6 eyed sand spider (I had to look that up). The spider (forget his name) is from the beginning of time and has observed Earth and humans for all its existence. The spider speaks perfect English of course. The spider is mainly there to make sure this voyage goes safely because you can't travel into the center of the Nebula without some help because it is very intense. The spider also has the ability to read minds and playback memories for Adam in his head.

This is where the reality blurs with hallucinations. It is not clear if the spider is real or just a figment of Adam's imagination. It appears to be physically real as they have scenes where that would be apparent. But that I believe is really the whole plot. That uncertainty I feel is important but I didn't realize it so much until the end. In the end he makes amends with his wife and supposedly makes it back home - although we don't get to see that. As slow as this movie goes I hate to say it that it almost could have gone 2 hours instead of 1.5 as I feel the extra 30 minutes could be used to the stories advantage.

Again - not a terrible movie. It just helps to know a tiny bit about the plot and slow moving aspect so you can prepare yourself. Maybe make 2 bags of popcorn instead of 1 - or better yet, smoke a whole joint instead of half

If you do watch it - let me know what YOU think. It came out in 2024 and we watched it on Netflix. My 21 year old son is home with us right now visiting and he fell asleep

In recent cinema, Friendship was a pain to watch. It's one continuous cringe fest about a dingleberry of a human.

M3GAN 2.0 was kinda dumb too. Evil AI needs to fight the even Eviler AI. I thought it sucked.

Thanks Brother 3.

I have severe depression right now so I'm afraid I won't be taking that film in any time soon.

Sounds interesting 'though.

@BeZo sorry to hear M3GAN 2.0 wasn't that great for you. I've been looking forward to watching both 1 and 2 in-sequence but haven't even seen 1 yet. I think I started a thread about it before the first movie came out and I've been holding out since then.

Didn't plan on being disappointed but you've got me worried now.
