Mustaine’s original Jackson is selling…but who’s buying?

That's a Legendary guitar, I wonder when Dave sold it? It's Top 5 on my list of historic metal axes I'd want if I were the collector type, although I don't do collector prices. Others would include the original black and white Rhoads Vs, Vai's UV7 Swirl from the cover of Passion and Warfare, etc.

I tend to think I'd hold on to the most iconic axes of my career for life, but dunno what was going through his head when he sold it. Hell, I have some of my own guitars I consider iconic in my youth, and plan to hold on them til the end, although no one would pay a stoopid amount of money for them based on my name. If they would, that might change things!

Good chance I'll build a replica of the MegaDave King V one day, though...
He sold off a ton of gear about 25 years ago. I believe it was after the first tour or so, when he put the band back together. They were losing money and he tried to recoup some.

I wonder if he's ever gonna sell the original silver Jackson V,? That was his first from the company I believe?

I wouldn't.

To each his own. Some people spend just as much or even more for a single night of partying without thinking twice about it.

I'd like to play with the guitar that recorded Rust In Peace just to get a feel of it, out of curiosity.

If I were rich, I wouldn't think twice about it. I'd also like to play with the red BC Rich Mockingbird Slash used for You Could Be Mine, the original ZW Bullseye, the real polka dot RR V etc. You get the picture.

I've played a couple legendary guitars like that (greg hetsons red sg, matt skiba's original italian jaguar copy) and invariably, they are just normal guitars.

Yes, expensive guitars sometimes in their time, sometimes not, always with provenance

But there's literally nothing special or magic about the ones I've gotten to handle 🤷‍♂️

Of course i've never held "greeny" or anything of that level, so maybe the ghost of christmas past gives you a tugjob after your first barre chord with that one.

I could see 10k max for a blowjob guitar if it plays well also. 200k is a bit steep. I am going to low ball the guy and see if he accepts. I am thinking 3k

There's certain eras of vintage guitar that have much higher quality than modern guitars, and I could see paying a premium for that

But especially with artist guitars, it just seems so eye-rolly

I agree. I could give a shit. I have ordered, owned and played custom guitars. Suhrs, kxk, mayonnes...tons of them. You can feel the craftsmanship when you are playing certain guitars, and it is special for sure.

That said, It doesn't really matter if you just want to play. Me and you have both taken lower quality guitars and upgraded hardware and electronics and made them play fucking well. If you want a custom, there is nothing wrong with it, and they are cool.

But I don't really have that hero worship shit and don't give a shit about autographs or things that famous people have had.

This guitar is not spec'd the way I like it. But it looks cool as shit. I can't deny that

Yep. I'm sure it plays great because it's an 80s jackson 🤷‍♂️

Unless it says “Les Paul” I like a guitar even less if it’s got someone else’s name on it.
Fanboyism is gay….

Big time agree

There are a handful of exceptions like "les paul" and a few other signatures

But in general it's cringe as fuck

How can you expect everyone around you to take you seriously as an artist, if you can't take yourself seriously enough to do your own thing?

not for $200K; not for $50K; even if it was a guitar of a guitarist that's important to me. $200K can do many other things...

there are a few guitars of guitarists I'd like to try though not want to own, at least not at the prices they demand...I've owned/own sig guitars (Petrucci, Lennon, Marr, Schuldiner, Stanely,...), and have some that are close (clownburst standard with Dimarzio SDs, a left handed Strat flipped over to play right handed). While not a signature model, my EBMM Kaizen guitars are still my favorites, co-designed with Tosin Abasi who isn't one of my favoiret guitarists or music, clearly he's good at what he does, just not something I enjoy.

For $200K, I'd rather make that down payment on another beach home on another island in an even better location than where I live now vs buying a famous guitarists number one guitar from their best era.

One of my favorite guitars was a christian andreu signature. It had most of the specs i wanted. But it also had that damned lizard on it. I thought of sanding it off. But i just moved on. Kind of wish i held onto it for my beater.

that's one reason I've purchased some sig guitars: the specs. Marr's Jag is really versatile, more versatile with more useable features than a traditional Jag...but eventually I decided the 60s spec Jags were more to my liking so I sold it.

The Majesty is a very versatile guitar, easy to play, you don't have to fight it at all (llke strats), it works with you effortlessly. IDGAF it's a sig guitar, it probably my favorite guitars I own after the Kaizen, which is less versatile, but does it's own thing ( the middle pickup setting, and the shape/feel of the neck, for start).

My Ibanez PS10 and now a clownburst LP Standard with DiMarzio SDs...diehard Kiss fan here, for decades. Guilty, Still a fanboi. No fear admitting it.

My BC Rich Stealth, Schuldiner model: DiMarzio X2N, and a diehard Schuldiner/Death fan. For years these were the only Stealth models you could find...I wanted a dual humbucker with floating trem, but could never find one in a condition/price worth it. I gave up looking:

Jackson Rhoads and Warriors are my favorite shredder guitars; the current Rhoads aren't Randy's Concorde (I had one and sold it, I like the more modern Rhoads models).

So if all I can get is a sig, or the sig has specs I like better than the the non-sig models, I'll buy it.

I absolutely love rhoads and king/flying Vs
The rhoads is the most comfortable standing guitar out there, and i mostly play walking around. But for sitting and playing silently on the computer, king V is so natural in the classical position

I think when everyone hates the stock that’s when you’re supposed to buy. DM seems to authenticate it and even he hates the price..lol. I predict this guitar will sell at auction for 750K-1M in the next 15-20 yrs. Maybe I’m wrong :dunno:

the Warrior is even more comfortable for classical sitting position IMO; they just don't offer many models with colors/features I like; I have two X series warriros, and 3 x-series Rhoads FWIW. The Rhoads get Duncan Blackouts while the Warrirors get Jackson branded pickups in the X series and are about the same price, for example.
