Mustaine/Megadeth Lead tone

Dave's lead tones seem to be different than the rhythm but it' still pretty straight forward, yet I can't put my finger on it.
I haven't seen much online or live, maybe his tech is turning on/off effects for him?
Is it just an eq that boosts certain frequencies? I find the same tone happening in Slayer solos.
It's like a wah but with not much movement.
Anyways just curious if anyone has some info on it. Thanks.
Just saw his most recent rig rundown. Nueral DSP this tour. Presets based on JCM800s.

He has used boosted ckts in his guitars and 1meg pots. There's more going on of course....

he is a legend though haha
He is a legend but also a total prick. Once you accept that it's easy to ignore the nonsense that comes out of his mouth and just enjoy his playing.

For tones i though the early bogner fish preamp or something like it was the secret sauce on Rust? I agree that countdown is the best sounding tone though. As much as I love kiko, Marty is " the" sound and then Poland.

One thing for sure, the going direct thing is not working for them. Sounds mushy and soft. Also the only guy that plays Marty right is well....Marty.

Yep, I'm a big Megadeth fan but here's Dave in ultra full of shit mode.......

He dropped that line6 custom amp like a hot potato, I dont recall how long he used it but I think he recorded United Abomnations with it, and then he was back to prophecy not long into the tour for UA, but he still said he used marshalls an had marshalls on stage when he dropped line 6.
I think he had nothing but problems with Line6, and United Abominations was where he used them, as well as the tour...

Rust in Peace was the Triple Giant, and I believe Countdown was CAE 3+ SE and VHT Power Amps. He's been all over the place over the years. He went to JVM410's during the Broderick years. Might still in the studio..

Saw a guy Saturday play Marty note for note, like it was nothing. Guitar player for local cover band, Incognito. Dude is a monster. EVH, SRV, Slash, Randy Rhodes, he can do all of them, and honestly does some of them better than the original.

I tend to agree with going direct. But, it has to be so much easier to setup and travel with. Probably consistent sound nite after nite.

So he's a parrot, who cares. The real gift is if you can play, write and arrange.

I think it's funny how people like to slag Dave when he has been there done that X1000000 and has stood the test of time, wrote some of the best shit before everyone else even thought about picking up a guitar...and then for it to not even have it occur to people what it took in his prime to absolutely own that fucking stage and lay down the law at a level most will never know need to back away from the keyboard and shut the fuck up. At the end of the day none of us is perfect.

I hate this argument, it’s weak as shit. Like people can’t have an opinion about a guy because he’s successful in the music business and we’re not ? For the record I love Megadeth, but Dave can be a total tool bag. My .02

Where did I single out anyone here not being a success? U don't like him as a person. Fine but his efforts in the trenches stand...if you want to compare people on the forum to Dave then it might not end well for them with all the music Dave wrote in comparison. Btw the only thing that's weak is not recognizing how monumental his contributions to the genre have been.

I'm not debating him as a person, I don't know him so I could care less when it comes to that. Is he a flawed person, sure but who isn't. His music helped me through a lot when I was young. Like it or not dude is a legend...

I would never poo poo his musical accomplishments, I just think he’s a nozzle, he’s bad mouthed almost every single guy that played in Megadeth and left, like they’re ALL the problem… what’s the common thread there ? It ain’t all those guys…

Politics suck forgive my lack of interest brother....
